Summary This position is located at Stars and Stripes Central in Washington, D.C. Duties The incumbent serves as Page Layout Copy Editor (Central Operations) for the page layout, design and copy editing of Stars and Stripes publications. Performs substantive editing for news, sports, and/or feature pages and sections involving final proofreading and editing of articles to correct any spelling, typographical or grammatical errors, or to discover or estimate editorial problems involved Designs and lays out assigned pages and sections in electronic publishing system, to include all elements (stories, photos, graphics). Ensures all text is free of spelling, grammar, and substantive errors; that headlines and cutlines accurately state what is supported by the content of the story or photo. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required. Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position. A one year probationary period may be required. Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check. Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a Tier 1 background investigation. Subject to irregular hours, evenings, holiday and/or weekends.Core hours are Sunday through Thursday, with the hours from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST. Qualifications Three years of specialized work experience directly related to the duties described above. Demonstrated work experience must include 1 year equivalent in complexity and difficulty to the next lower pay band level. Preferred are those candidates who possess a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in journalism and related work experience as described above. Pay-Band (NF or CY) Allowances and Differentials This is a pay-banded position. Sunday premium pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. If authorized, only regular (full-time, part-time, limited tenure and seasonal) employees may be paid Sunday premium pay. When authorized, Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday).
