Research Technician II/Bacteriophage Therapeutics Job Locations US-MD-Silver Spring ID Category Research Associate Type Full Time Hours/Week 40 Location : Name Walter Reed Army Institute of Research Position Summary Odyssey Systems is currently looking for a Research Technician II to join a dynamic and growing team at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) Wound Infection Department (WID) . WID is tasked with delivering specific, effective countermeasures for infection of combat wounds pre-injury, point-of-injury, and post-injury. The Bacteriophage Therapeutics (BT) group focuses on the developent of Bacteriophage countermeasures against Multidrug Resistant (MDR) microbial pathogens of military relevance. Duties include identifying and characterizing Bacteriophage against specific ESKAPEE pathogens using various molecular, immunological and biochemical techniques. Responsibilities Duties include, but not limited to: Perform research on phage therapeutics for microbial pathogens of military relevance and animal testing. Develop and recommend phage cocktails for the treatment of the ESKAPEE pathogens. Perform assays to include but not limited to genetic analysis PCR assays, plasmid profiles, biochemical and immunodiagnostic tests, mass spectrometry and organize and tabulate results of studies and prepare data summaries. Analyze and report experimental results from each technical research support area to stakeholders and leaders. Maintain accurate and appropriate research records including maintaining a laboratory notebook. Maintain laboratory operation to include insuring stocks of laboratory supplies and reagents, ordering supplies and preparing supply requests for approval, annual inventory of micro-organisms, annually updating of technical research support area SOPs, maintaining a supply of clean glassware, properly disposing of hazardous biological and chemical waste, preparing reagents, and maintaining an inventory of laboratory chemicals, orderliness and cleanliness. Assist in preparation and proper execution of animal use protocols. Work closely with Government and other Contractor personnel to plan, develop, and gain approval of human use protocols. Qualifications Minimum Required Qualifications Citizenship: Must be a US citizen or Green Card holder and lived in the U.S. three out of the last five years. Clearance : Ability to obtain NACI Education: BS in biology or related field Years' experience: At least three (3) years previous experience as a laboratory technologist versed in the basic principles of sterile microbiological and tissue culture technique, and knowledge of operation of basic laboratory equipment. Must has experience in a BSL-2 environment. Certifications: N/A Prefe rred Qualifications Clearance : NACI Education: BS in biology or related field Years of experience: Two years of laboratory experience with bacteriophage assays and methodologies is preferred.
