A description of the business units can be found at: Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas: SBSE Collection Operations, Specialty Insolvency (SCI) The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. Examines bankruptcy documents and researches bankruptcy case(s) using a variety of automated accounting tools to determine or modify case and determine if dischargeable, recognizing further research issues that affect the bankruptcy. Provides prompt, professional, and courteous service and assistance to all internal and external customers. Prevents or immediately takes action(s) to minimize or prevent the Service's willful violations of the bankruptcy automatic-stay provision or discharge order. Provides information and confers with taxpayers and their representatives and other government officials to resolve routine to complex issues and determines a course of action designed to protect the government's interest. This position has career progression. If you are selected at a grade level lower than the full working level, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses. For example, you may be hired as a GS-05, but if the position has career progression to GS-11, then you may move from a GS-05 to a GS-11 in as little as three years. This may be paid or non-paid experience. Examples of qualifying experience include experience performing a variety of miscellaneous tasks involving researching and processing financial documents, reviewing information and determining corrective action on accounts, researching for missing/unclear accounting information and reviewing financial documents submitted for completeness. OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: A Bachelor's degree or four years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Have a combination of education and experience equivalent to one year of specialized experience. Post-high school education must be from an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Specialized Experience GS-06: Applicants must have: At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the Federal government. Specialized experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that demonstrates the ability to acquire the particular competencies needed to perform the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying experience include, experience dealing with the public analyzing tax or accounting issues. Experience resolving problems, adjusting accounts, and providing information on financial issues. Specialized Experience GS-07: Applicants must have: At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) in the Federal government. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies necessary for successful job performance. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include bookkeeping or accounting duties, working with the public analyzing tax or accounting problems and resolving high-conflict differences through use of established guidelines, dealing with customers in person, in writing or by telephone in a variety of situations that require solicitation of information to identify concerns and offer solutions, interpreting account information to address a variety of issues, guidelines, and past transactions.
