Job Summary The Cost Accountant will work directly with the Controller and VP of Finance to execute a range of financial activities for the organization including responsibilities in multiple areas of Accounting and Finance. Responsibilities include examining, recording, and summarizing costs, including products and services. Additionally, tracking and managing costs of goods manufactured, inventory and fixed goods to help improve business decisions and financial plans. The role will maintain financial records in conformance with IRS rules and GAAP accounting. The position is located in Springboro, OH, with results reported to the corporate office in Lake Orion, MI. Responsibilities * Perform detailed analysis on inventory costs to assist in the development of standard costs and understanding of inventory variances. Financial job cost management within the ERP system (Plex). * Assist with the month-end closing process: preparing closing journal entries and account reconciliations, conducting research, and making corrections to journal entries for account discrepancies. * Assist with cycle count and annual physical inventory counts, investigate variances and adjustments. * Review and monitor Bill of Material costs and fluctuations. * Calculate, review, and monitor labor and overhead rates. * Assist logistics and purchasing in the analysis of freight when determining landed cost. * Work with cross functional teams in multiple departments to assist the accounting team with shipping, receiving and inventory questions. * Perform account analysis and reconciliation on a variety of accounts on the balance sheets and income statements such as Inventory, Tangible Fixed Assets, Purchase Price Variance (PPV), freight, depreciation. * Assist with fixed asset ledger, including preparation of journal entries and depreciation schedules. * Identifying fixed assets, such as buildings, land, vehicles, and machinery, and recording their acquisition, adjustments, and transfers. * Accounting for fixed assets, including depreciation, and reporting on their status. * Reconciling fixed asset accounting systems to general ledgers and reconciling year-end inventories. * Analyzing and reporting on capital expenditures and supporting annual financial audits. * Maintaining fixed asset records and systems, and developing processes to support them. * Assistance with budget preparation and analysis. * Assistance with various external audit and due diligence responsibilities, including pulling support and interfacing with third party auditors and/or regulators. Support all ISO standards and activities. * Adhere to federal and state regulations. * Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures. * Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned. * Predictable and reliable attendance. Position Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree in Accounting / Finance or related field, or equivalent experience. * Minimum five (5) years of Accounting / Finance related experience. * Minimum two (2) years of experience performing job costing (preferred). * Minimum one (1) year of experience performing fixed asset management (preferred). * CPA or CMA license (preferred). * Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Be able to work well independently and as part of a team. * Experience with an ERP (Plex software preferred). * Experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
