THE POSITION The State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Camp Hill is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated, creative individual to join us as a Corrections Activities Specialist. The Department of Corrections strives to reduce criminal behavior by providing individualized treatment and education to offenders, resulting in successful community reintegration through accountability and positive change. This position gives you the opportunity to help us achieve our goal by coordinating leisure time and recreational programs for inmates within the facility. DESCRIPTION OF WORK As a Corrections Activities Specialist, you will be responsible for organizing, instructing, and supervising inmate programs, leisure time activities, inmate work crews, and sports within SCI Camp Hill. Work includes scheduling, coordinating, and teaching programs at all levels of interest and ability in the areas of sports, games, creative and performing arts, and social recreation. You will have the opportunity to coach or assist with coaching various sports (basketball, soccer, power lifting) and demonstrate basic sports techniques and use of fitness equipment. You will also be responsible for supervising inmate organizations and self help groups. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment, 40 hours per week Work hours are 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Tuesday - Saturday or Sunday - Thursday, with a 30-minute lunch. Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $63,343.00 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor's degree with major course work in recreation and physical education; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree. Other Requirements: Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required. You must meet the PA residency requirement.
