Description The Facilities Management unit of the Division of Facilities and Services at West Virginia University is seeking application for an Electrical Trades Specialist I. About the Opportunity Under the supervision of the Operations Manager and Trades Specialist Lead II, performs both installation of new construction and general maintenance of existing facilities utilizing journeyman level electrical skills. Shall also provide guidance to Maintenance Workers and unskilled personnel as assigned. The Division of Facilities and Services encompasses seven units that are integral to the University's success. Wellness programs What you'll do: Installs, repairs, and inspects electrical distribution equipment and wiring both inside and outside buildings to verify capacities. Installs and maintains circuit breakers, sub-station switchgear, and transformers. Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots 23kv and 5kv underground power distribution circuits. Pulls high voltage cables through underground ducts and cable trays in steam tunnels. Splices and terminates high voltage cable using current state-of-the-art (3M) materials and methods. Installs, maintains, repairs, and inspects wires and auxiliary equipment, such as fuses, insulators, and switches to ascertain capacities and working conditions, utilizing thorough knowledge of types, sizes and styles of equipment. Installs and maintains fire alarms, emergency lighting, emergency generator power transfer switches, and those items associated with life safety, as they pertain to the electrical field. Installs and maintains all control systems for motors, lights, heat, and air controls, participating with various crafts as required to properly troubleshoot and repair control systems. Designs routing plans, installs and maintains new electrical conduit, tubing, wiremold, raceway, and associated accessories to accommodate electrical and telecommunications wiring. This duty requires pipe fitting ability. Installs and maintains existing and new lighting systems for both interior and exterior to buildings, including street lights and parking lot lighting. Utilizes bucket truck and power scaffolding to install and maintain lighting and power distribution systems. Installs, maintains, tests, repairs, and adjusts laboratory, laundry, kitchen, etc. equipment, as required within the normal University setting. Participates in the installation of simple electronic control systems, clock systems, etc. Ensures that all local, state, and federal building codes are maintained. Maintains an organized work area to include cleanliness, safety, and security of materials. Coordinates the return of materials to warehouse that are not needed for project completion. Operates vehicles that would require a valid driver's license. May be required to perform general maintenance duties either in relation to normal journeyman responsibilities or assisting other trades such as but not limited to; low level electrical connections, lighting, sheet metal fabrication, painting, carpentry, plumbing, millwright work, etc. May be required to move, load, and carry all materials and equipment necessary to complete all phases of assigned maintenance and construction projects. May be required to assist in the effort of moving any existing conditions which interfere with the flow of the project. When project is completed, work site must be left in a clean and orderly fashion. Must be able to respond during off hours to cover emergency situations. Work Hours: Mon-Fri 7a-3p Pay Grade: PG 14 Qualifications Must have High School Diploma or GED. Completion of a 2 year accredited vocational craft trades program. 2 years experience in trades electrical maintenance experience in the area of electrical. Ability to work off-hour schedules due to the need to have power distribution equipment de-energized to perform the necessary testing and maintenance. Knowledge of electrical systems Knowledge of local, state, and federal electrical and building codes. Ability to read blue prints, perform mathematical computations, and operate a personal computer. Knowledge of warehousing functions Ability to work with people in a stressful environment Ability to hear and interpret sounds in work area and verbal instructions. Ability to use logical problem solving techniques. Ability to communicate well utilizing both written and oral instructions. Knowledge of technical terms related to electricity and project management Ability to perform all assigned electrical tasks Ability to work with multi-craft personnel. Demonstrated ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards. Demonstrated ability to maintain average or above work standards.
