Appointments for testing may be made by contacting the Personnel office at which you would like to test or walk-ins will be accepted at the following testing sessions: 9:00 AM, Monday - Friday or 1:00 PM, MonWedFri or 1:30 PM, Tue & Thur. Application MUST be completed online.Overview:On an intermittent basis for a period not to exceed 1500 hours nor less than 800 hours within a twelve (12) month period, under general direction of the Public Service Supervisor, performs responsible cashier duties involving the receipt of monies in connection with the processing of various title and registration applications, validation of such fees and applications; over the counter issuance of plates, stickers and ID Cards to the general public, companies, dealers and remitters. Required to lift and carry 0-25 pounds.Duties and Responsibilities:Reviews information and fees completed by the customer for vehicle registration transactions; validates on CRT various vehicle registration transactions with correct plate type, expiration date and fees; collects appropriate fees and issues I.D. Cards, plates, stickers; operates validation machine and CRT machine.Balances monies collected with daily sales and performs daily count of assigned inventory of plates and stickers; completes deposit tickets and sorts monies according to denomination for preparation for bank deposit; balances validation machine with total sales insuring that checks and cash match totals on validation. Must be able to lift and carry 0-25 lbs. i.e., license plates.Assists the public in the completion of applications for various motor vehicle transactions; performs duties of an information clerk answering customer inquiries and directing the customer to the appropriate processing area within the facility.Specific Skills:Requires extensive knowledge of office methods, practices and procedures.Requires working knowledge of inventory recordkeeping methods.Requires ability to operate a validation machine rapidly and accurately.Requires ability to operate in an independent manner.Requires ability to work under stress situations.Education and Work Experience:Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years high school and one year of related experience of a clerical nature preferably including the operation of a validation machine.Application Process: Please visit to apply by completing the online application; you may also upload a resume, or other attachments as needed.Preference will be given to Illinois residents in the hiring and selection process, in accordance with the Illinois Secretary of State Merit Employment Code.Questions regarding this posting or Illinois Secretary of State employment practices may be directed to Job Counselors at our Personnel offices in Chicago (312-793-5515) or Springfield (217-782-4783).
