Custodian Print ( Apply  Custodian Salary $36,050.00 Annually Location Mount Laurel, NJ Job Type Full Time (40 hours) Job Number 01072 Department Facilities Opening Date 10/08/2024 Description Benefits Questions Description Under general supervision, perform a variety of custodial and manual duties which involve lifting and use of heavy-duty power equipment. Duties are related to the general appearance and cleanliness of both the interior and immediate exterior of the College facilities. This is a Support Staff union position as stated in the Support Staff collective bargaining agreement- Grade A Specific Duties and Responsibilities Sweep and/or vacuum floors/carpets, hallways, corridors, and stairways, and mop, scrub, wax, and polish floor surfaces using heavy-duty power equipment. Perform necessary service and preventive maintenance such as cleaning and oiling equipment, to prevent breakdown and insure effective and efficient operation. Wash, clean, disinfect, deodorize, and maintain rest rooms in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition. Replace toilet tissue, towels, soap, deodorizer, etc., as required. Clean and polish office furniture, and empty wastebaskets. Move and rearrange furniture and/or fixtures, assist in the movement of office equipment, and in the loading and off-loading of office equipment and supplies. Pick up litter from the immediate vicinity of assigned buildings around entrances and steps and sweeps free of leaves. Perform snow and ice removal by scraping shoveling, or mechanical devices provided in assigned areas such as walkways, entrance ways and steps. Maintain stock of designated custodial supply areas. Washing windows and walls Cleaning air vents, window shades, and blinds Cleaning carpets utilizing various industry standard practices. Preparing and monitoring room spaces for special events and resetting afterwards. Responding to on-site inquiries from the public and help resolve custodian services requests. Follow Burlington County recycling regulations as prescribed. Perform other related duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside and may be exposed to extreme temperatures. Specific assignments may require occasional outdoor work. Exposed to dirt, dust, grease, and disagreeable odors. Exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritation from strong cleaning solutions and solvents, cuts, burns, etc. Care is required when working on ladders or lifting and using heavy equipment to avoid injury. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check. This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the RCBCSSA Collective Bargaining Agreement. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position. Moves heavy equipment, sets up ladders and works from ladders. Frequently lifts and moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally over 50 pounds. Operates 110 lb. floor buffer requiring pushing, pulling and occasional lifting with help to strip and wash floors. Constantly stands, walks, stoops, bends and reaches. Occasionally lifts awkward, bulky and/or heavy objects, up to 40 pounds from ground level to waist or higher. Uses team lifting for objects weighing over 50 lbs. Uses cart, dolly, or other equipment to carry more than 50 lbs. Occasionally climbs, stoops, kneels, balances, reaches, crawls and crouches while performing office or work duties. Verbal and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication through automated devices, such as telephones, radios, and similar; and interpersonal interactions. Constant use of eye, hand and finger coordination while using custodial tools and equipment. Visual capacity enabling constant use of equipment. Physical capacity to safely operate cleaning industry related machinery. OVERALL PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY: The primary and most important overall responsibility of all employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students and other members of the College community. Minimum Qualifications Education Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent GED Experience Required: One (1) year of work experience in the custodial service field. Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements: Possession of current valid driver's license. Ability to operate large floor cleaning machines. Ability to lift 40+ pounds. Ability to safely and properly use cleaning solutions and other chemicals. Ability to comprehend and follow directions. Ability to effectively communicate in English language, both verbally and in writing. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform physical tasks as assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and fellow co-workers. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to operate a buffer and other mechanized cleaning equipment. Ability to read at a standard high school level, enabling comprehension of warning labels and written instructions. Knowledge of carpet cleaning techniques. Knowledge of floor care operations. Knowledge of general housekeeping methods and practices. Shall be familiar and know how to use the Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Ability to work a revised schedule during holidays, weekends, emergency periods and substitute for other custodial staff when necessary. Basic computer skills or the ability to learn within a 60-day probationary period. Safely operate all vehicles and other job-related equipment Attend department and other related meetings. Additional Information INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS: Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.
