Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following: * The Lead Paramedic identifies, distributes, and balances the workload and tasks among the line Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) in accordance with established workflow andor skill level. Makes day-to-day adjustments to accomplish the workload, in accordance with established priorities or directives from the supervisor, and ensures timely accomplishment of assigned team tasks. * Reviews the work of EMTs and Paramedics work priorities, methods, deadlines and quality have been met. Amends or corrects work performance not meeting established standards. Ensures that each employee has an integral role in completing the daily team mission. * In addition to the lead duties, the Lead Paramedic performs all the duties and responsibilities of a Paramedic. Incumbent must have the knowledge and ability to lead and perform the following: Responds to on-site accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses, sometimes encountering situations which may be life threatening. Determines and prioritizes appropriate medical treatmentprocedures and need for additional assistance. * Lead Paramedics shall have broad knowledge and skills sufficient to provide and gather information on the human body structure, function, illnesses and diseases, and the treatment procedure supporting patient charting and goals for the assigned patient for the purpose of communicating with the patients and nursingmedical staff members. * The Lead Paramedic administers basic and advanced life support care at emergency scenes in accordance with established medical standards, which may include providing advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), international trauma life support (ITLS), PALS, PEPP, advanced airway management, CPR, andor drug treatments. * Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals. Takes appropriate measures to prevent disease transmission or exposure to bodily fluids. * Operates or utilizes various emergencymedical equipment, tools and supplies which may include ambulance, extrication tools, blood pressure cuff, cardiac monitor, glucose monitor, defibrillator, endotracheal tube, external pacing device, 12 lead EKG airway equipment, intravenous pump, laryngoscope, oxygen terminal, pulse oximetry monitor, CPAP, auto-ventilator, pediatric equipment, medical supplies, radio communications equipment, and general office equipment. Ambulance Interpretive Guidelines involve: Airway Obstruction and Respiratory Arrest; Cardiac Arrest; Mechanical Breathing Aids; Bleeding and Shock; Fractures of Torso and Extremities; Head, Face, Neck and Spine Injuries; Eye, Chest, Abdomen, and Genitalia; Childbirth; Miscellaneous Medical Emergencies; Environmental Emergencies. * Trains or arranges for training of staff. * Serves as a coachfacilitator and reports daily job performance, progress, and training needs to supervisor. * Provides oversight and coordination of process improvement initiatives, assures teamwork, and addresses customer issues; facilitates communication among patients, their families, and ambulance service to resolve concerns and complaints. * Uses telephone and radio communications equipment and systems, selects most efficient route to and from sites taking into consideration traffic patterns, adverse weather conditions, and health facility locations. Reads highway maps, program GPS devices, and follows instructions. Decontaminates the vehicle and assures vehicle is ready for the next run by replacing supplies and medical equipment and performs safety inspections and operator maintenance. Work Environment: On a regular and recurring basis, employee is exposed to infection and contagious diseases, is required to work in all types of weather and traffic conditions, and faces risks and discomforts at the scene of accidents, to include the possibility of noxious fumes, dangerous substances, cuts, bruises, etc., requiring the Paramedic to comply with special safety and health precautions andor to use protective gear. Work may also expose the incumbent to patients who are intoxicated, under the influence of drugs or mentally unstable resulting in belligerent and sometimes violent behavior. Work Schedule: Paramedics work rotating shifts, including holidays, and are subject to occasional recall to maintain adequate coverage of the Emergency Department and ambulance service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Mandatory overtime may be required due to run times that may extend beyond normal scheduled work hours. Physical Requirements: The Paramedics work involves extended periods of heavy moving and lifting of patients in a variety of situations. Generally, the work requires recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, and positioning of patients, frequently under adverse conditions or in confined areas. Paramedics may be required to spend prolonged periods in protective breathing apparatus and protective clothing during chemical, nuclear, biological, or hazardous materials incidentsexercises. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11012024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
