As a Patient Transporter, you'll coordinate and communicate with medical and other team members ushering patients from their rooms to various locations throughout the hospital using wheelchairs and stretchers and helping patients with simple, but important, assistance needs. You're also charged with keeping a log of time sensitive specimens and supplies between facilities, medical centers, physician practices, buildings, and remote areas according to established schedules. Your Everyday * Transport patients without incident to units, testing areas, and area on campus. * Transport patients to the discharge center and remain with discharged patients until their ride arrives for pick-up. * Lift the bed rails up and place the nurse call button near the patient after placing the patient back in bed. * Utilize proper body mechanics when lifting, pulling or pushing patients to avoid injury to the patients. * Keep patients informed and give periodic updates, as appropriate. * Deliver medical items to the nursing units at the request of the House Supervisor such as pumps, I.V poles or special beds in a timely manner. * Escort visitors, patients, or other staff members to other appropriate areas of the hospital. * Advise supervisor of current or anticipated problems or compliance issues. * Accept assignments willingly and complete them in a timely fashion. * Utilize the service recovery process to address customers' concerns or complaints. * Interact with patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional and courteous environment. * Locate, retain and return all of the equipment used in the transport department. The Must-Haves Minimum: * High school diploma GED or 2 years of work experience as a dispatcher, transporter, or in the hospital setting. * American Heart Association BLS certification.
