POSITION SUMMARY : Reporting to the Senior Manager, Workforce and Productivity, the Manager, Labor Management oversees the productivity and position control programs for Boston Medical Center's academic medical center and community hospitals. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient labor utilization, optimizing reporting systems, and driving strategic decisions through data-driven analysis. Key Responsibilities: Oversee Labor Optimization: Lead a team responsible for enhancing labor utilization through productivity reporting and position control. Analytical Expertise: Leverage a strong analytical mindset to identify opportunities for improvement and inform strategic decision-making. Effective Communication: Cultivate exceptional communication skills to influence stakeholders across the organization and drive collaboration between finance and operations. Operational Partnership: Collaborate with operational leaders to align department productivity standards with real-time staffing needs. System Proficiency: Serve as a super user of the labor productivity system, translating analytical results into actionable insights for decision-making. Position Control: Oversee the position control process for the hospital division, utilizing productivity metrics to guide hiring decisions. Results-Driven: Drive increased productivity for the hospital division through targeted reporting, action planning, and effective position control. Position: Manager - Labor Management Department: LPMS Schedule: Full Time ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES: Oversee and manage productivity and position control initiatives for a large healthcare system with 9,900 FTEs across three hospitals. Exercise significant influence over the development and implementation of labor strategies, partnering with operational and financial leaders to drive improvements in budget, productivity, and position control. Exercise direct oversight over the annual labor budget, which exceeds $1 billion in spending. Essential role in quantifying the financial implications of hourly wage increases or decreases on the overall salary and wage budget for both union and non-union FTEs. Implement system-wide labor initiatives and supervise program managers to achieve goals. Provide analytical insights to inform strategic decisions and hospital initiatives. Manage labor productivity reporting and assist managers with target reviews and budgeting. Ensure consistent labor structures across all hospitals regarding job codes, pay codes, and cost centers. Develop and deliver training on new processes and system tools related to productivity and position control. Collaborate with HR, HRIS, and FP&A to optimize system configurations for labor management. Lead weekly Hospital Finance Review Committee meetings. Partner with the Senior Manager, Workforce and Productivity on projects to enhance labor structures. Drive change management initiatives with operational managers and directors to improve labor practices. Serve as a subject matter expert for team members, offering guidance and support to solve complex challenges. Ensure team members are well-versed in departmental policies and procedures through comprehensive training. Provide direct leadership and mentorship to a team of program managers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth through regular performance reviews, feedback, and goal setting. Promote a collaborative and communicative work environment within the finance team and across the organization. JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION: MBA or related advanced degree required Specialization in healthcare administration preferred CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: None required EXPERIENCE: 10+ years of proven success in a complex healthcare environment. Proven project and program management experience is highly desirable. Minimum 2 years of direct management experience overseeing a team of professionals. Experience implementing and optimizing new financial systems is a strong advantage. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs): Required Skills and Experience: Strong understanding of financial metrics, productivity, and position control. Excellent analytical skills and ability to interpret complex data. Proven ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership. Strong presentation skills and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment. Proven ability to develop and manage budgets for multiple hospitals. Proven management experience.
