This position is a temporary vacancy covering. The position is expected to start on 11/01/2024 end on 02/05/2025 when the current employee returns to work. At that time, the covering employee will be terminated from the position. REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Adult Education POSITION OVERVIEW: The Director of Adult CTE resides in the Department of Adult Education and reports directly to the Senior Director of BPS Adult Education. The mission of BPS Adult Ed is to provide a variety of flexible programs to ensure that Boston residents have access to quality instruction, job training, and college and career advising. We honor the diversity of our students by promoting equity and inclusion. BPS Adult Ed annually serves about 800 adult students who want to learn English, participate in vocational training, improve their academic level and/or graduate from high school. Day and evening, as well as in-person, online, and virtual programs, are offered. The Director of CTE is a key member of the administrative team. The Director of Adult Ed CTE will work directly with the Senior Director of Adult Ed to oversee and grow CTE programming for adults. In addition to the daily management of CTE programs, the CTE director will take the lead on continuous improvement initiatives, to ensure that all programming is aligned with industry-recognized standards and best practices. The Director of CTE is expected to perform duties with a high degree of independence, initiative, and judgment. The Director of CTE works a flex schedule and should be available on Mondays thru Thursdays from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written; have excellent judgment, and have the ability to manage a fast-paced and multi-faceted workload with attention to detail. This individual should be a self-starter with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks and projects. The Director of CTE will be expected to maintain confidentiality and exhibit discretion and professionalism in all activities. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, implement and supervise adult career and technical education programs by collaborating closely with the staff at Madison Park Technical Vocational School, the local workforce board, and business partners. Supervise all aspects of day-to-day operations of the CTE Programs. CTE programs run between the hours of 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students, community, and business partners. With the support of the Recruitment Specialist and the Enrollment Specialist, the Director of CTE will develop marketing materials, and recruit and enroll students into a variety of CTE programs throughout the year. Maintain continuity of messaging between classroom staff, students, and the administrative team.?? Ensure that students receive appropriate career/vocational/technical and academic instruction and experiences to qualify for employment opportunities in various industries. Track data on student course completion, certificate attainment, and employment. Plan for, procure and maintain appropriate supply levels to meet the production demands of the programs, including all consumable materials and assessment codes and/or vouchers for industry credentials. Model professionalism and organizational core values across roles and functions within the organization, thoughtfully considering personal contributions to the environment.? Provide problem-solving and customer service assistance in a pleasant and knowledgeable manner as a member of a cross-functional team. Recruit employer partners in a variety of industries that will provide instructional support, workplace experiences, and employment opportunities. ? Collaborate with BPS partners and other K-12 CTE programs to develop additional pathways for BPS students post-graduation. Create, develop, and analyze attendance reports. Assist and Support Assist with Recruitment and Information Sessions at various locations in and around Boston. Assist with data entry of student records as necessary. Assist with intake, testing, placement, and orientation of new students. Perform other miscellaneous department and/or BPS Adult Education duties as deemed appropriate by the Senior Director. General Responsibilities Participate in department meetings and appropriate professional development activities. Establish a structured, positive, and inspiring school culture. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a rigorous, joyful, and safe environment for students and staff. Work collaboratively with school leaders to ensure effective communications with teachers, staff, and students. Assist in establishing and maintaining the goals, philosophy, and policies of BPS Adult Education. Communicate effectively with other counselors, teachers, and program administrator(s) on student and program issues. QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED: Master's Degree in a relevant field or substantial documented professional development. Strong commitment to the Department of Adult Education's mission, values, and educational model Two years of relevant successful experience in an adult education setting. Experience working with the adult learner population as well as the 16 - 21-year-old adult population Ability to read transcripts and determine transfer credits. Attention to detail to ensure that accurate records are maintained and shared. Knowledge of local and state graduation requirements. Possess a flexible and growth mindset that allows them to adjust to the changing demands of teaching in an adult education setting. Excellent computer skills, including MS Office suite, Google Apps, and video conferencing, and ability to learn new technology. Ability to create meaningful relationships with a diverse student population. Ability to manage and prioritize tasks across multiple projects. Ability to interpret and present data for internal and external audiences. Attention to detail to ensure that accurate records are maintained and shared. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to effectively collaborate with students, teachers, and administrators Excellent organizational, time management, and oral and written communication skills in English. Current authorization to work in the United States. A deeply held and unyielding belief in the overarching mission of public education and opportunities for adult learners. QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED DESE Vocational Administrator License.
