Read more: /working-with-us . Position Summary We are seeking a highly motivated undergraduate scientist to join the Leads Discovery & Optimization (LDO) department. LDO, which is comprised of a diverse group of scientists, provides assay support from early drug discovery through preclinical studies. The position is within the Cellular & Molecular Pharmacology & Screening Technologies team, which focuses on high throughput screens and mechanistic understanding of chemical matter. In this role the scientist will use cutting edge cellular assays to study key scientific questions in receptor pharmacology. The undergraduate scientist will work within this dynamic environment to learn how cellular signaling and GPCR pharmacology can impact early drug discovery. Additionally, the student will learn cell culture and transfection techniques, BRET biosensor technology, assay development and how to quantify and compare pharmacological data. Key Responsibilities Under the guidance of a mentor, the undergraduate scientist will be expected to: Execute and optimize cellular assays including nanoluciferase complementation and BRET-based biosensor assays. Learn relevant automation technologies including liquid handlers, acoustic transfers and plate readers to execute assays in a high throughput format. Gain an understanding of GPCR signaling and pharmacology in early drug discovery through hands on lab-based work and critical reading of the scientific literature. Maintain a detailed lab notebook of all lab work. Present an end of project summary before the Leads Discovery & Optimization department. Qualifications & Experience Minimum 3.0 GPA Rising college junior or senior working toward acquiring a BS in biology, biochemistry, or related field. Minimum (3) semesters of laboratory coursework. Prior experience in cell culture or cellular assays preferred but not necessary. Possesses a strong desire to learn new techniques, a high degree of independence, and careful attention to detail.
