About the Role *** This is an onsite position with five days per week (M-F) in office required at our Washington, DC newsroom. *** MLex is seeking a copy editor who will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy, clarity, and consistency of our legal news content. The copy editor will be responsible for editing and proofreading articles and other editorial materials related to legal topics, ranging from court cases and legislative news to legal analysis. Copy desk shifts include: 9:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. and 12:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (ET). Shift assignments are dependent upon department needs. Responsibilities Editing and proofreading written materials to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency Collaborating with writers and other team members to develop and refine content Ensuring that all written materials adhere to established style and branding guidelines Conducting research to ensure the accuracy of technical information Reviewing and providing feedback on materials created by other team members Managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines Requirements Demonstrate proficiency in English, Journalism, or a related field at a Bachelor's degree level Be highly proficient in grammar, punctuation, and spelling Have experience with copy editing and proofreading at a news organization Be able to work collaboratively with a team while also demonstrating self-sufficiency Be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills Be detail-oriented and able to maintain focus for extended periods of time Possess a background in law, and/or experience in news or legal organizations is preferred Work in a way that works for you We promote a healthy work/life balance across the organization.
