Job Summary: Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) located in Chicago, Illinois, invites applications for the position of Director of Information Technology. The position reports to the Chief Information Officer and is part of University Technology Services (UTS) leadership team. The Director of IT's work location is primarily conducted from NEIU's main campus. In this role you will: The IT Director leads technical staff in the areas of Network Infrastructure, Client Services, and Project to ensure comprehensive support services are available to the NEIU community including academic and administrative units, students, researchers and partner organizations. The Director of IT provides oversight and expertise in technical systems, services and network architecture, and reviews requirements and standards for NEIU's 3-campuses. Manages internal staff, external vendors and consultants to ensure excellence in the delivery of IT services that support NEIU's mission. The Director of Information Technology is a strategic leader and strives for continuous improvements in networking, Unified Communications, security standards/tools, Active Directory, email, operating systems, storage, backup/recovery of systems, documentation and proactive monitoring to provide 24/7 availability of services. The Director of IT will work closely with the CIO and serves as second in command when the CIO is not present. the UTS Leadership Team and other Team Leads in strategic planning and develops roadmaps that align and support the University. NEIU has recently invested over $4 million to upgrade the NEIU network, servers, storage, supporting software and monitoring tools. Job Description: Provides leadership and direction while maintaining oversight, day-to-day management and accountability of the Network Infrastructure, IT Project Management Office, IT Client Services (IT Service Desk and Media Services Group) while working closely with the CIO on forecasting and budgeting departmental needs. Ensures consistent, reliable end-user technology services are provided to all campuses in a cost & time efficient manner. Defines and executes the overarching strategy to guide Service Delivery Management to ensure IT is meeting our delivery goals and commitments. Help develop project business cases, charters, project intake process, stakeholder registries, plans, schedules, status reports, and agendas. Negotiate costs, terms and conditions with suppliers. Conduct requests for proposals (RFP) as needed. Create and implement service agreements and standards. Modernize the tools used by the IT department area groups to deliver services in an intuitive personalized, resolution-focused and efficient way. Create and monitor KPI metrics against targets; lead organization to meet or exceed KPIs. Communicate status weekly, monthly and quarterly. Responsible for establishing protocols, processes, SLAs and guidelines for the IT departmental business processes. Work closely with senior leaders of the technical domains to clarify the service first support model and to deliver and provide all services with a standard of excellence. Ensure classroom technology and media service support are strategically aligned with the needs of the university faculty. Enforce change management practices across major relatable IT changes to ensure compliance and mitigate unnecessary disruption of services provided. Communicate with the CIO and leadership positions on potential service disruptions orsecurity concerns in a timely manner, and provides strategic evaluations of current employees, operations and present future initiative roadmaps. Provide IT Change Management Support and direction working closely with the UTS change management task force Ensure overlap in support services by identifying primary and backup technical roles, and contingencies are in place for any identified risk to the services being provided within IT. Works closely with the IT Security Officer and Associate Director of Enterprise Apps to ensure compliance with security standards and collaboration on related software platform needs/support. Works closely with the CIO to create business value through strategic technology & operational initiatives. Hire, Supervise, Mentor and evaluate staff. Perform other jobs duties, as assigned. Minimal Qualifications: Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication and presentation skills across organizational boundaries. Be able to communicate to the campus on behalf of the UTS Department. Seven years of progressive work experience in a related field and 3 years of relevant supervisory experience. Preferred Experience: Previous Direct experience leading IT Service Desk, Media Services, Network Infrastructure and Project Management/Office teams. Experience in successfully leading large-scale projects and technical teams. Skilled in Project Management methodology, processes, procedures, tools, and techniques. Ability to facilitate problem solving in and between teams with a strong understanding of technical troubleshooting.
