As an intern at HAI Group, you will be provided a hands-on experience to learn and contribute to the Internal Audit team's impact to the enterprise. Internship Program Mission: To engage in the selection of undergraduate and graduate talent (in specific roles, advanced degrees) for an internship with HAI Group designed to support each student's focus of study by evoking the utilization of acquired knowledge, theory, and skills for practical application at work. Internship Overview: The Internal Audit Function, as a designated representative of the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors, works to ensure that the risk management framework and internal controls of HAI Group optimally serve the interests of the Company's stakeholders. The purpose of the Internal Audit function is to provide objective assurance to the Audit Committee and to Senior Management that risk throughout the organization is adequately managed. Internal Audit helps HAI Group accomplish its objectives by utilizing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes. Internal Audit develops and executes audit plans utilizing a risk-based assessment, and makes recommendations designed to enhance process controls and efficiencies and to positively impact business results. The Internal Audit Intern will assist the Internal Audit department on a variety of projects to effectively execute the Company's Internal Audit objectives. These projects will provide the Internal Audit Intern with hands on auditing, accounting, and risk management skills to assist in providing objective assurance to the Audit Committee and to Senior Management that risk throughout the organization is adequately managed. Tasks focus on assisting in the execution of audits within the Internal Audit Plan, including performing test work and effectively documenting results of procedures. The intern will gain experience in insurance-industry topics through a variety of audits including, but not limited to, claims and underwriting, experience in accounting and finance related areas, and experience in Microsoft Word and Excel for audit procedures. This is a full time, paid internship that is required to be on-site in the HAI Group office, located in Cheshire, CT. The program will run from June- August. Major Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to; Perform testing procedures for audits identified in the Internal Audit Plan Prepare well-organized and understandable work papers that accurately, completely, and concisely document the testing procedures performed and results obtained Communicate any findings from testing procedures to the in-charge auditor Participate in Annual Risk Assessment meetings with various departments to gain experience in enterprise-wide risk management Expand knowledge of insurance and affordable housing industry topics Participate in the creation and execution of a fundraising event alongside fellow interns Academic Background: Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student, pursuing a degree in Accounting or Finance. The ideal candidate should have taken a course in auditing with an interest in the insurance and/or affordable housing industries. A GPA of 3.0 or higher is required. Knowledge/Skills: Candidates with an understanding of accounting topics including GAAP, statutory accounting principles, and auditing techniques will be most successful. Some knowledge of the insurance and/or affordable housing industries and Microsoft Word and Excel would be helpful, but is not required. The ideal candidate should have the following skills: Demonstrates an entry-level understanding of accounting Processes solid verbal and written communication skills, asks meaningful questions and can present information and results in a clear and concise manner Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills Demonstrates knowledge of basic functions of Microsoft Word and Excel Experience: Prior work experience not required, however, exposure to accounting, auditing, finance, and/or insurance concepts is helpful Talent and Competencies: Candidate should be detail-oriented, analytical, a good communicator, and adept at collaboration. Candidate should also be a self-starter and be able to work independently and add value to the tasks assigned. An open-minded and positive attitude is also a must.
