As a member of the Accounting Department, the Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the Finance & Accounting department's day to day functions. The Senior Accountant will assist with the monthly financial close, preparation of financial statements and analytical reports, processing of accounts payable, budget preparation, account reconciliation, tax preparation, and other administrative duties, as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Execute timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities. Prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations, including prepaid assets and fixed asset accounts, and review, approve, and post journal entries. Review team's work for accuracy and compliance. Assist with annual budgeting processes, mid-year forecasts, and preparation of the Firm's monthly financial package. Provide support to external auditors; prepare various audit schedules as necessary for internal and external audit requirements. Identify issues independently. Lead efforts to research issues, develop recommendations, resolve complex issues, and implement approved changes. Prepare and produce monthly reports and returns required by senior management, regulators, department heads, and office administrators Compile financial metrics and operational statistics for annual benchmarking surveys. Prepare payroll, sales and use, gross receipts, and personal property tax returns. Assist with tax audits, income tax returns, tax inquiries, and other tax-related assignments as necessary. Prepare, reconcile, and submit yearly 1099's for vendors, contractors, etc. Work closely with Controller - Financial Accounting, Director of Taxation, and Accounting Manager to compile/analyze tax information requests, prepare worksheets and calculations, and research other issues as assigned. Complete ad hoc requests as necessary. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS: Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS (EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES): Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CPA track is a plus. A combination of education and work experience will be considered in lieu of education. Experience: A minimum of five years of related experience. Law Firm experience is preferred, but not required. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Must possess knowledge and demonstrated application of generally accepted accounting principles. Working knowledge of related legal/compliance regulations. Strong MS Office skills (primarily Excel and Word). Strong knowledge of financial reporting. Familiarity with the Elite 3E software is a plus. Detail oriented with strong mathematical, analytical and computer skills. Ability to work with detailed information accurately and efficiently. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Professional and courteous communication with clients, attorneys, paralegals, and staff are a must. Strong customer service orientation. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Able to follow instructions accurately and proactively keep others informed of progress. Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet, professional manner. Able to read and understand technical forms and financial reports. Willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and with tight deadlines. WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Sedentary work: Exertion of physical strength to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 10 pounds. Work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. VISUAL ACUITY Worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
