Independently and expertly analyze ship system performance to develop technical definitions of problems and subsequent specifications or technical documentation for the resolution of shipboard engineering problems that relate to the design, construction, operation, maintenance, repair, testing and other engineering service requirements. The individual in this position functions as the lead Marine Engineer and assists the Vice Presidents in coordinating, planning, and directing engineering subdivisions. Job Title: Lead Marine Engineer Job Location: 2021 Lakeshore Dr, Ste. 414, New Orleans, LA 70122, USA Duties: Lead conceptual, detail and production of new vessel and vessel modification design projects and resolve technical problems. Design, propose, review, select, and oversee efficient arrangements and machinery systems according to regulatory and client requirements. Perform calculations (i.e., fluid and airflow, structural and piping strength) to support design decisions and quality check calculations to ensure final products meet quality standards and contract standards and requirements. Ensure the technical correctness of the drawings by using the applicable job, federal (CFR), classifications (ABS), local (USCG, NFPA, ANSI, ASTM, ASME, SNAME, EPA), international standards (IMO: SOLAS, MARPOL, COLREG, ISO, IEEE, IEC, IPC), and standard practice, Assist the Project Manager in proposal development, client management, and overall project execution. Develop and track schedules to ensure SOW is completed on time and budget, work with client to define new tasks and work with engineering managers to provide competitive cost for new work. Review and manage engineering work packages and associated deliverables. Work on time-based functions and ensure met with the schedules and take corrective actions, as necessary. Work with multidisciplinary staff. Assist and mentor junior engineers and working closely with AutoCAD and modeling design staff. Participate in client meetings and develop successful working relationships to grow the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering business. Develop detail design/drafting in CAD format for vessel modifications, vessel repairs, outfitting and site plans. Adhere to all company safety, environmental, quality assurance and security programs. Special Skills, Other Special Skills, or Requirements Required Qualifications: 15+ years of experience in marine engineering. Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering ABET accreditation program in the US. Minimum one-year internship or full-time experience at a recognized Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering company in the US. Knowledge of mechanical/marine engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues. Critical thinking skills to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, load calculations, statistical analysis, and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution. Occasional domestic and international travel depending on project-specific requirements as required. Preferred Qualifications: Onboard sailing experience at a senior engineering level with familiarity with the design, operations and maintenance of piping and machinery systems. Experience in design development, arrangements, piping system design, machinery selection, machinery design, production design, and design integration for marine vessels such as oceangoing vessels, patrol vessels, offshore support vessels, research vessels, tugs, and barges. Experience with AutoCAD, Navisworks, Rhino 3D, Solidworks, Inventor, and Pipe-FLO software is a plus. Travel Details Once in a month to US Customer locations, and once every few years to India. WORK ENVIRONMENT Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise. Occasionally, may visit or be temporarily assigned to an operating plant or to reside in an office on-site for the duration of a project. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, and work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals and airborne particles.
