A Day in the Life of a Senior Engineer (Civil /Roadway) You are at the forefront of brainstorming creative solutions for challenging projects. You lead, support, and mentor an interdisciplinary team to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconstructions and streetscapes in highly urban settings to signature trail projects in suburban and rural areas that highlight and enhance the natural environment. You use programs such as AutoCAD and/or MicroStation to fulfill production work on your projects. You share your knowledge with staff and clients, to develop feasibility studies, concept plans, and construction documents, as well mentor your colleagues to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality. You participate in business development pursuits in your home region as well as across our U.S. offices, and you get to work with a close-knit team that is passionate about the work and the communities that you serve. Work Schedule for a Senior Engineer (Civil /Roadway): This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week. The Silver Spring office of Toole Design is conveniently located just a few blocks from the Silver Spring station on the Red line, and from multiple bus lines. The office is easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit. We are targeting a salary range of $120,000 to $150,000 for this position. Requirements Qualifications of a Senior Engineer (Civil /Roadway): • Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil engineering • Professional engineering license • 10+ years of experience developing construction documents for roadways or highways • 2+ years of experience serving in a project or design management role • Experience preparing transportation and local agency permit documents • Proficiency in one or more of the following: MicroStation InRoads, MicroStation OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D • Experience coordinating utility, right-of-way, street lighting, traffic signals, and landscape and hardscape layout • Experience developing construction documents and cost estimates It would be a plus if you have any of the following: • Experience working on engineering projects in one or more of the following agencies: MDOT SHA, VDOT, DDOT, PennDOT • Exposure to construction management • Experience analyzing and designing stormwater infrastructure • Experience using stormwater design software such as HydroCAD or HydroFlow • Having a strong interest in multimodal and active transportation design You'll be great here if: • You have strong leadership skills and enjoy participating in multi-disciplinary teams • You are passionate about sustainability and the opportunity to work on challenging multimodal projects that make communities more livable • You enjoy producing high-quality work products and seeing your projects get built • You have strong communication skills, whether written, verbal, and/or graphically • You can build relationships, bring enthusiasm to exciting projects, and are detail oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
