Salary: $16.72 - $25.75 Hourly Location : Southport, NC Job Type: Part-time Job Number: 00051 Department: Community Building Opening Date: 10/09/2024 JOB SUMMARY The Custodian is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and functionality, ensuring a welcoming environment for various events and daily operations. This role encompasses executing janitorial duties, setting up and dismantling furniture, and addressing unforeseen building needs. This position requires a schedule of Wednesday-Sunday. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Moves furniture or sets up rooms for meetings in the Community Building. Cleans bathrooms; scrubs lavatories and toilet fixture and mirrors and replaces or restocks tissue and paper towel supplies and soap dispensers. Cleans glass doors and mirrors. Cleans kitchen and cooking areas. Prepares and cleans public restrooms as well as rental areas and facilities. Cleans sidewalks, picks up trash outside, and empties trash. Picks up trash by emptying trash containers and public areas, and replacing liners and straightens public areas. Uses tools and equipment such as vacuum cleaners, brooms, mops. Notifies supervisor of supply needs Follows safety procedures in performance of work. Performs related duties as required. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Southport Community Building Indian Trail Meeting Hall Fort Johnston Bathrooms Nash St. Bathrooms Lowe-White Bathrooms Taylor Field Bathrooms Trash Bins, Franklin Square Park Trash Bins, Taylor Field Trash Bins, Lowe-White Park Trash Bins, Waterfront Park Trash Bins, Howe Street Trash Bins, Moore Street Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Willingness to work a flexible schedule within a Wednesday through Sunday timeframe. Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment. Knowledge of routine maintenance requirements of buildings and general grounds maintenance, and equipment used. Knowledge of potential hazards and appropriate safety procedures and equipment including MSDS sheets. Skill in the use of assigned tools and equipment. Ability to use online calendars for scheduling purposes. Ability to keep simple records of work activities. Ability to identify cleaning needs and resolve with appropriate methods and supplies. Ability to perform manual labor requiring continuous physical effort. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with peers, supervisor, and the general public. Ability to set priorities, work unsupervised and productively and meet deadlines. Education and Experience: Graduation from high school and six (6) months to one (1) year of experience in custodial work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licenses or Certifications: Possession of a NC Driver's License.
