Company Description Our client is in need of a Senior OSP Engineer on-site with 50% travel. Job Description The Senior Outside Plant Engineer is accountable for engineering outside plant facilities to meet customer demands for service while complying with RUS specifications, inspection of work orders and contract construction. Rearrangement of existing outside plant facilities to maximize plant utilization. PRINCIPAL DUTIES Engineers, stakes, and develops plans and specifications for customer service drops and outside plant cable facilities, including applicable RUS specifications. Engineers, stakes, and develops plans and specifications for main line fiber projects, including applicable RUS specifications. Engineers, stakes, and develops plans and specifications for subscriber loop electronics equipment sites including feeder facilities and distribution facilities. Researches cable fills, transmission design specifications and right-of-ways for projects Prepares accurate cost estimates and complete work order packages. Coordinates completion and cut-over of work orders with Field Operations and Network Operations Researches and prepares permit drawings: i.e. state, county, federal, private, and railroad, etc. Inspects projects in progress for compliance with RUS specifications. Completes weekly Construction Work in Progress reports. Inspects completed projects and as-built packages Inspection of open trenches for correct depth Final inspection of work orders completed by contractor crews. Prepares appropriate RUS inspection and closing forms for projects under a 773 or 515 contract Understands and accepts the necessity for reporting to work, on time, and is ready and able to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position on a daily basis Proactive involvement in the Company s Safety Program, including compliance with all rules and regulations, and for continuously practicing safety while performing their duties Prepares weekly project status reports Prepares contracts of assigned projects for submission to contractors/vendors Researches information for completion of Damage Reports Researches information for PUC/RUS inquiries Actively interfaces with customers concerning service order requirements Actively interfaces with developers and governmental agencies concerning parcel splits, subdivisions and zoning changes Reviews and makes contact with customers on complaints resulting from contractor work order activity Attends pre-construction conferences/meetings Assists with performing cable acceptance tests and completing test results sheets Qualifications EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree, emphasis in electronic engineering, land surveying or related field desirable TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS Computer literate with emphasis on Microsoft Office Functional knowledge of CAD/GIS systems software Knowledge of fiber optic transport, fiber to the home, fiber to the curb Knowledge of cable splicing and assignment for copper and fiber Knowledge of RUS 515 symbols and procedures Knowledge of data and special circuit design parameters Proficiency in reading and preparing engineering and splicing schematics Proficiency in reading and developing as-built prints Proficiency in reading record-of-survey maps and Assessor's Parcel information Conceptual understanding of basic DC and AC electronics Possesses and maintains a valid and unrestricted class C driver s license, with driving records that provides insurability under the Company s vehicle insurance carrier and within the guidelines of the Company 5-10 years as an OSP Engineer, Telephony Technician (Central Office, Installation, Repair or Combination Technician), Line Assigner, CAD Operator, or similar position, where duties correspond with the essential and periodic functions of this position PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Possesses the ability to speak clearly and understandably and hear communications by telephone and in person Possesses fine and gross manipulation skills, including grasping and power grip abilities Must have good vision (with correction), and be able to sit for prolonged periods of time Must have ability to stand, sit , squat, bend kneel, twist, crawl, Reach, lift, balance, carry, push and pull to accomplish daily tasks associated with the requirements of the position Must be able to perform job duties and responsibilities in all types of weather, ranging from extreme heat to cold, including rain and snow Must have the ability to walk and negotiate rough terrain while carrying necessary equipment to perform job duties Must have the ability to drive in all types of terrain and in all types of weather, including rain and snow Must have the ability to install and remove tire chains from vehicles Must be able to lift 50lb. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighting up to 25lb. OUTDOOR CONDITIONS Exposure ranges from mild to extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, rain and snow. At times, personal protective equipment and clothing are the only protection provided against the elements. There is also unavoidable exposure to plant and animal life that inhabit the area. Environments may also include crawl spaces and attics. These conditions range from wet, damp and cold to hot, humid and dusty TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS This position involves 50% onsite work and 50% field traveling. It includes frequent visits to the field, driving, and staying within the territory, which spans roughly 2000 square miles, from the valley floor up to elevations of 7-8k feet.
