Our client, an A-rated National Insurance Carrier, is seeking to add a Sr. Commercial Lines Underwriter. This person will be responsible for underwriting and managing a portfolio of both admitted and non-admitted business within the company's underwriting guidelines and appetite. This role requires an individual with a strong understanding of specialty and complex risks, solid analytical skills, and the ability to make sound underwriting decisions. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing and maintaining relationships with brokers and agents to grow a profitable book of business. This person will have the ability to work Hybrid out of either New York or New Jersey. Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal specialty package risks, with a focus on General Liability, Property and Umbrella, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Analyze complex risk exposures, determine coverage requirements, and set appropriate premium levels. Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and other distribution partners to facilitate business growth. Collaborate with internal teams, including claims, actuarial, and product development, to assess risk and develop competitive product offerings. Monitor and manage the performance of the portfolio, identifying trends and making recommendations for corrective action when necessary. Provide training and mentorship to junior underwriters and support staff as needed. Stay current with industry trends, market conditions, and competitor products to provide insight and guidance to the underwriting team. Participate in special projects and initiatives to support the overall strategic objectives of the underwriting department. Qualifications: 3 - 7+ years of experience in Commercial Lines, with a focus on either admitted or non-admitted business. Experience underwriting Property, General Liability, and Umbrella Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with distribution partners. Strong Retail Broker relationships within the region Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with underwriting software and tools. Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Bachelor's degree highly preferred.
