Summary: Under the guidance of the Facilities Maintenance Director or designate, this position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of Arc facilities and grounds. The Building Custodian is responsible for Responsible for floor care, performing various surface tasks, including vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, and spot-cleaning carpets of all office areas and employee restrooms. Responsible for the maintenance of administrative staff dusting of office desks, chairs, and counters, carrying out tasks such disinfectant spraying, and cleaning. Responsible for removing trash in office areas and sanitizing of restrooms daily. Responsible for cleaning of windows throughout buildings and office. Responsible for reporting repairs and replacements encountered when executing daily tasks. This position may also be assigned facility and grounds maintenance tasks including but not limited to cleaning and maintaining a sanitary environment in and around all agency facilities to mitigate the spread of germs and surface viruses. Status: Non-Exempt Job Responsibilities: Maintain floors in a clean state by sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, and waxing Empty and clean trash receptacles and collect recycling Clean, sanitize, and supply bathrooms Clean and service custodial equipment as needed Perform minor repairs (where required) on furniture, buildings, and equipment Report any safety, sanitary, or fire hazards to the appropriate department Lock and unlock windows, doors, and gates Ensure grounds and work program rooms and related areas are clean and orderly Qualifications: Education: Required to have a High School diploma or its equivalent. Knowledge: Basic knowledge of cleaning products, including chemicals and supplies, and methods used in office cleaning. Knowledge of Health and physical hazards of standard cleaning materials to include: Proper handling, use and storage of all cleaning chemicals, including dilution procedures when a cleaning product must be diluted before use; Proper procedures to follow when a spill occurs; use of required Personal Protective Equipment required for using the cleaning product, such as gloves, safety goggles and respirators; and how to obtain and use hazard information, including an explanation of labels and SDSs. Knowledge of safety protocols and reporting. Knowledge of operating automatic floor scrubbing machines, floor buffers, and wet and dry vacuums. Communication skills: Must be able to read, write, and speak English language at a level necessary for efficient performance along with good communication skills to effectively follow written or verbal instructions Interpersonal skills: Besides providing support to the staff of the agency the Building Cleaning Technician will have contact with service recipient's and staff and may be required to provide directions or other assistance to them. Hence, it is important that they can establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, co-workers, or clients Detail orientation: To perform the job of an office cleaner successfully, the individual must give attention to detail when cleaning. Organizational skills: Office cleaners must also be organized individuals with the ability to follow a schedule and adapt to changing schedules or routines. Ability to function independently and or with a team under assignment. Flexibility and ability to thrive and perform in an ever-changing, fast paced and demanding environment. Must have a valid New Jersey driver's license with abstract (not exceeding 5 points), and ability to meet agency insurability requirements. Complete State/Federal Criminal Background checks and Central Registry checks. Major Position Responsibilities Complete all required daily activity documentation relative to position responsibilities and assignments as required. Clean windows and glass doors. Assure timely, rotational, periodic cleaning preparedness in preparation for state inspections, and timely interventions. Remove and properly dispose of all recyclable materials. Compliance with state, federal and OSHA and related regulations, as well as with agency safety regulations. Must complete all required and agency assigned DDD assigned courses to include COVID-19 training upon hire and participate in a minimum of 16 hours annually of either agency DDD trainings such as Blood Borne Pathogens, CPR and or Defensive Driving, State and or personal and professional focused OSAHA training. Must have good customer service skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions. Ability to work with and be a part of a team. Ability to work independently. Knowledge of cleaning methods and cleaning products. Ability to operate a computerized security system, enter and report work details. Ability to maintain honesty and integrity in all aspects of the job. Ability and willingness to adhere to attendance requirements, including regular and punctual employee presence. Ability to promote and follow agency policies, and building and department procedures. Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds. Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator. Materials & Equipment Operating Knowledge : Working knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals to include ability to accurately and daily record time worked and work events. Operating knowledge of basic custodial equipment. Operating knowledge of electrical aerial lift platforms preferred at hire; required within three months after hire. Reporting Relationships & Direction/Guidance This position requires driving a vehicle in the pursuit of Agency business; therefore, the incumbent must meet all eligibility requirements for Agency drivers. Keep personal car insurance records and driver's license current. Schedule annual vehicle examination for service vehicles with the Transportation Department. Determine when and what kind of maintenance the vehicle needs, keep track of general maintenance schedules, especially car tire condition. Ensure sound running of the vehicles assigned and arrange minor repairs where necessary. Check oil and tires properly and keep the service vehicles in clean condition, both inside and outside. Agency staff that dive agency vehicles are subject to annual MVA abstract reviews. Driving records that have citations that prohibit a staff member's ability to drive a vehicle such as DWI or other egregious offenses will be monitored. Inability to operate an agency vehicle will require review of the staff member's job assignment and ability to perform the job by Human Resources. This position operates in an indoor and or outside fieldwork setting where exposure to weather elements, dirt, and dust, unpleasant smells, and/or loud noises are possible indoor temperature fluctuation on occasion. (Physical Demands) The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: ability to operate a motor vehicle and drive to and from local and remote locations daily 100% ability to verbally communicate and converse with employees maintain a stationary position standing 80%; sitting 20% move/traverse, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms for extended periods of time, 90% up to 100% depending on the job type lift up to average of 45 lbs. In order to effectively perform the essential functions of this role work as described to include ability to hear and repeat information, take notes, read documents carry necessary field equipment by hand or cart weighing up to 60 lbs. on occasion; and other physical duties as directed by your supervisor and/or Director agility with wrist and finger dexterity to access, key and sort electronic information or to file documents.
