Learn more about VMD culture here: VMD Culture About the Mission You Will Join: In this COMSEC SME role, you will be integral in safeguarding communications, ensuring that sensitive information remains secure, and maintaining the integrity of the communication systems. Your Impact to the Mission: Manage the Communications Security (COMSEC) program in accordance with the procedures and guidelines Must obtain and maintain COMSEC level training and designation Manage all requests for cryptographic services, equipment, and material Receive, issue, and control all electronic key, secure telephone equipment and In-Line Encryptors (INE), firmware and software updates centralized around communication security Maintain the handling, operation and troubleshooting of INE KG175; Secure Data Sender (SDS) KIK20 and Really Simple Key Loader (RSKL) KIK30 key loading devices and General Dynamics Viper Secure Telephone Ensure all services comply with the regulations contained agency policy Conduct daily inventory inspections of all COMSEC devices as required by policy and procedures Conduct semi-annual COMSEC inventories in March / September and provide report Participate in annual audit and maintain a "Satisfactory" rating Provide a bridge for complex cyber issues at all levels Experience Needed to Be Successful: Computer networking concepts and protocols, and network security methodologies Cyber threats and vulnerabilities Cybersecurity principles Risk management processes (e.g., methods for assessing and mitigating risk) Specific operational impacts of cybersecurity lapses Competent in Information management and information assurance to include knowledge of cybersecurity principles used to manage risks related to the use, processing, storage, and transmission of information or data Disaster recovery continuity of operations plans Experience with Intermediary Application (iApp) and OTNK Capabilities: Proven experience using and developing workflows within iApp, a key management software application. Skilled in leveraging iApp's Over the Network Key (OTNK) capabilities to securely manage and distribute encrypted keys in real-time across geographically dispersed users. Knowledge of iApp's role in Encrypted Key Distribution (EKD) and its Army and Navy co-funded development is preferred. Encryption algorithms (e.g., Internet Protocol Security [IPSEC], Advanced Encryption Standard [AES], Generic Routing Encapsulation [GRE], Internet Key Exchange [IKE], Message Digest Algorithm [MD5], Secure Hash Algorithm [SHA], Triple Data Encryption Standard [3DES]) Relevant laws, policies, procedures, or governance related to critical infrastructure Must be technically competent in data privacy and protection and encryption Desired Qualifications and Skills: Experience as a COMSEC technician or specialist or manager Basic Qualifiers: Education Requirement : Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, or Computer Science Can Additional Years of Experience Substitute for Degree? No Desired Certification(s): GSEC, CISM, CISSO, FITSP-M, GCSA, GCIH, GSLC, GICSP Minimum Years of Overall Experience: 7 Minimum Years of Specific Experience in Field: 5 Minimum Clearance to Start: Interim Secret Work Status Allowable: US Citizen The Type of Person That Will Excel: You are curious, inquisitive, and have demonstrated a constant eagerness to learn through actions. Travel and Telecommuting: Travel: Little (less than 10%) Telecommute Options: Hybrid, Potentially in-person requirements twice a week in Arlington and Fairfax, Virginia.
