Job Description Company : Numerical Advisory Solutions Company Website: Successful candidate will be relied upon to support the development of software and engineering analyses under the supervision of senior engineering staff. Must have general software development and problem-solving skills. Successful candidate should have working knowledge of evaluation, selection, and application of standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria. Individual must possess technical knowledge of the nuclear or mechanical discipline and an ability to work on project teams with other engineers. Individual will assist in developing calculations which will evaluate plant performance, safety, and reliability. The ability to follow project Quality Assurance procedures is necessary when tasked. Good client interface/communication skills, as well as ability to coordinate and interface with other disciplines, are a must. Must be familiar with codes and standards applicable to the nuclear, sustainability or process industries as well as possess working knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations (including the PHMSA, NRC, DOE, etc.). Good client interface/communication skills and understanding of the roles of other disciplines, as well as ability to coordinate and interface with other disciplines, are a must. Responsibilities Potential Technical Tasks: Throughout the time in this position, the following tasks may be performed: Data and information gathering Data manipulation and task automation for analysis input Performing computations and analyses Performing investigations and research of issues/problems Review of calculations/analyses, investigations, and research Preparation and review of Thermal-Hydraulic, Chemical Process, Carbon Capture, Hydrogen/Ammonia production and/or Radiological computer models Software development Software verification and validation Design and conduct experiments and analyze results. Independently formulate and solve problems. Develop new solution techniques and/or improved engineering processes. Mentor personnel on technical approaches, processes, and techniques. Analyze system specification and translate into software requirements specification. Review and maintain legacy code. Participate in technical design meetings with both staff and clients. Document code in a manner consistent with company standards. Test and review software. Quickly learn new programming languages. Develop new techniques and/or improve software development processes. Managerial Responsibilities : Coordinates and assigns tasks to Associate Engineers, Engineers and Senior Engineers, technicians and administrative personnel and may supervise personnel to complete assignments/projects. Prepares and reviews scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments. Prepares proposals for professional services. Professional Activities: Member of industry organization preferred, leadership role or committee participation encouraged; technical presentations/publications support. Position Location: Position is located at a NAS location (Cary, NC, Idaho Falls, ID, Stonington, CT, or Richland, WA). Qualifications Education Required : Bachelor's degree in nuclear, mechanical, or chemical engineering or an appropriate science from an ABET/EAC accredited program. Experience Required: Eight (8) years of experience minimum, including credit for advanced engineering and science degrees, with at least four (4) of those years (since receiving the bachelor's degree) in the nuclear, chemical, petrochemical or sustainability (e.g., carbon capture, hydrogen, ammonia, energy storage) industries. Experience in the analysis, design and/or operation of nuclear, chemical, petrochemical or sustainability plants is required. Experience with complex computer software, such as process simulation, thermal-hydraulic or CFD computer code analysis, is required. Individuals who are additionally involved with software development must demonstrate knowledge of computer languages, data structures, and software design methods and techniques. They are required to have experience maintaining and extending codes developed under a software QA program and are required to have experience in code walkthroughs and reviewing and checking analyses prepared by other engineers. Other Qualifications : All applicants must possess good oral and written communication skills as well as presentation skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Effective time management skills are required as position may involve working on several projects concurrently. Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access is required. Successful candidates will be required to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes. Overtime work is required at times. Travel is required to client sites with occasional periods of field/office work. Ability to perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, to include climbing ladders, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous areas is required. Preferred Education: An MS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering from an ABET accredited university is desired in addition to the bachelor's in engineering. Preferred Experience: Knowledge of thermal hydraulics analysis and radiological analysis is desired. Programming experience applying FORTRAN or C-based languages. Preferred Certification(s) or License(s) Required: Professional Engineer certification is desired.
