Salary: $15.00 Hourly Location : Grove City, OH Job Type: Part-time I Job Number: Department: Parks and Recreation Opening Date: 10/25/2024 Closing Date: 11/30/2024 9:15 AM Eastern General Description and Qualifications The Grove City Parks and Recreation Department (GCPRD) has an extended history of providing recreation-based childcare for South-Western City School District students. P.A.R.K., an acronym for Programmed After-School Recreation for Kids, offers a safe, affordable place for elementary school-aged students to stay mentally, socially, and physically active in the school they attend. The reason the P.A.R.K. program has been successful for over 30 years is because of the P.A.R.K. leaders who make a difference in the lives of our P.A.R.K. children and families. The Grove City Parks and Recreation Department is committed to providing affordable, inclusive, accessible opportunities to a diverse range of abilities and interests, across generations, to build confidence, quality of life, and pride in the community. Appointed by the Mayor in consultation with the Administrative Assistant, the Assistant PARK Leader under the immediate supervision of the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for the development, organization, and execution of a well balanced, diversified program of activities during PARK. The assistant PARK Leader shall be chosen solely on the basis of his/her qualifications, and as shown by the adequacy of his/her successful experience. Has proven ability in oral and written communications. Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, civic leaders and the public in general. Sufficient knowledge to carry out a full range of varied responsibilities and discharge the accountability required of the Assistant PARK Leader. Has the ability to follow direction, provide necessary services and enforced stated rules and regulations. Schedule : Four (4) hour shifts, three (3) days per week (Monday-Friday) School Year: 2:15 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. Summer: Shifts will occur between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. School Sites : South-Western City School Buildings: Buckeye Woods, JC Sommer, Highland Park, Monterey, and Richard Avenue. Essential Functions of the Position Obey and promptly execute all orders of the Administrative Assistant. The Assistant PARK Leader shall have the following powers and duties under the appropriate immediate supervisor: Demonstrates regular attendance. Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions. Helps to plan and supervise daily activities including daily games, community building, snacks, outdoor recess, indoor free time, open gym, and other programming for children. Assists the P.A.R.K Leaders with daily operations and participate in all activities. Works as part of a team to create a positive environment where children can learn about themselves, interact with peers, and experience success. Possesses good communication skills, patience, and a positive attitude. Greets and engages each child and family professionally. Cleans and maintains the program space and equipment daily. Uses positive behavior management including clear and consistent expectations for behavior, positive feedback, and redirection. Makes site manager/leaders aware of all incidents and injuries. Positions themselves for optimal interactions and supervision of children. Fulfills responsibilities for the primary site to which they are assigned and traveling to different sites on an as-needed basis at the direction of the P.A.R.K. Coordinator/Supervisor. Follows policies and procedures of the P.A.R.K. program as outlined in the staff and parent handbook. Accepts mentoring and coaching from P.A.R.K. leaders and site managers. Performs other related duties as assigned. Working Conditions and Equipment Operated The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); ascends and/or descends stairs; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; regularly required to lift, carry, push, or pull objects 30 lbs or less. Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered light work. The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive: Personal computer, computer software (e.g., RecTrac, City View, GBS, Microsoft Office), printer, copy machine, fax machine, and other standard business office equipment. Minimum Acceptable Characteristics, Licensure and/or Certification Minimum Qualifications At least 16 years old and completed their sophomore year of high school. Able to kneel, crouch, bend. Can handle multiple weather conditions (cold, wet, hot). Can be physically active (standing, walking, playing games) with children for three or more hours. Knowledge of: Appropriate early education and childcare practices; office practices and procedures; English grammar and spelling; records management; *City/department goals and objectives; *City/department policies and procedures; *workplace safety practices and procedures; *personnel rules and regulations; public relations. Skill in: typing; word processing; computer operation; calculator operation; use of modem office equipment; use of telephone/mobile phone. Ability to: carry out simple instructions; carry out instructions in basic written, oral, or picture form; interpret a variety of instructions in basic written, oral, picture, or schedule form; deal with problems involving several variables within a familiar context; read, copy, and record figures accurately; complete routine forms; prepare routine correspondence; prepare accurate documentation; compile and prepare reports; respond to routine inquiries from public and/or officials; communicate effectively; instruct others; understand a variety of written and/or verbal communications; arrange items in numerical or alphabetical order; sort items into categories according to established methods; *maintain records according to established procedures; work alone on most tasks; answer routine telephone inquiries; develop and maintain effective working relationships; demonstrate manual dexterity; travel to and gain access to work site.
