Title: Career Services Advisor Institution: Volunteer State Community College Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Career Services, the Career Services Advisor provides career readiness assistance to current and prospective students, coordinates all aspects of the Student Employment Program (SEP), and serves as the main point of contact for the SEP, supports all operational areas of Career Services and assists with advancing the goals of Career Services for all Volunteer State Community College (VSCC) campuses. The advisor will also work closely with multiple college departments, faculty, staff, students, community partners and local education agencies and provide information for job opportunities to students and graduates. Job Duties: Promote and support the execution of all career services programming and events (career fairs and other recruiting events, employer development, etc.). Assist with managing the career management system, including responding to and troubleshooting students' questions regarding system utilization. Coordinate all elements of the SEP: verify applicant data, determine eligibility for student employment in collaboration with the Office of Financial Aid and Office of Human Resources, oversee job development in collaboration with campus and community partners. Serve as point of contact for students seeking on-campus employment opportunities. Support collaborations with dual enrollment, off-campus sites, and regional K-12 partners to promote career development and guidance for middle school and high school students. Provide individual/group career coaching to students, including career assessments, career guidance sessions, and workshops. Deliver career-related presentations to classes and student organizations. Respond to students' and company recruiters' questions via email or phone in a timely and professional manner and refer to the Coordinator of Career Services as needed. Oversee the daily operations of Career Services in the absence of the Coordinator and provide strategic input as requested. Assist with marketing and communication efforts related to Career Services. Research current hiring trends to facilitate students' job search and ensure students' resumés, interviewing skills, and professionalism adhere to employer expectations. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree. Two years of advising or customer service experience. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in higher education, specifically at the community college level. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, service area school systems, employers, and community partners. Must be a willing advocate of the mission of the college. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational skills, and detail oriented. Demonstrated effective writing, speaking, and listening skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to travel within the VSCC service area is required. Strong computer skills to include proficiency in Microsoft Office products and other related software.
