Salary: $25.80 - $34.82 Hourly Location : Chesterfield, VA Job Type: Seasonal Job Number: Department: Parks and Recreation Opening Date: 10/21/2024 Closing Date: 11/10/2024 11:59 PM Eastern Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED; college degree preferred; two years of responsible experience or training in farmers' markets, or equivalent experience in planning special events and logistics or events operations or management; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Supervisory experience preferred. Working knowledge of operational characteristics of open market environments; of methods and techniques for delivering outstanding customer service; of principles of bookkeeping or accounting; of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations regarding the sale of perishable and non-perishable food items and market-related merchandise. Ability to be on-site and available on market days and work flexible hours to perform duties on non-market days; to manually lift and load program supplies and equipment; to problem-solve; to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment; to convey a positive and professional image and ability to respond to emergencies in an efficient manner. The ideal candidate will have the ability to think creatively, strong communication and organizational skills and possess solid computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point & graphic design software. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. Duties The Farmer's Market Manager position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Chesterfield County Farmer's Market. The manager serves on-site at the market during all market hours as well as off-site during non-market hours performing duties related to market operations. The market manager works directly with the market's advisory committee. The Committee provides input on policies related to the Farmer's Market. The market manager works cooperatively with the committee and is responsible for ensuring compliance to market policies and established rules. In addition, the manager will represent the market to the market's vendors, the consumers, and to the community. Duties during market season may include: Serving as liaison to the market's governing body Communicating market policies, activities, and rules Maintaining database of contact information of farmers and vendors Ensuring adherence to all applicable rules, regulations, and policies Reporting and tracking statistics related to market usage and growth Communicating procedures to vendors and consumers, answering questions, and resolving disputes Coordinating market operations on market days to include assigning vendors to stalls, properly placing vendors in stalls, ensuring market and parking signs are appropriately placed and site is clean and clear after closure Market promotions, to include social media, website, and operation of special market events Perform other work as required Off-Season duties may include: Recruiting vendors and developing community relations Advertising/promotional program development, including special events planning Working with market committee to plan for market growth and development Coordinating site preparation for upcoming season, including securing location, site permits, market insurance, equipment and ensuring completion of maintenance or Finalizing market schedule for upcoming season Coordinating volunteers for upcoming season Perform other work as required Shift Shift varies based on market needs.
