Job Title: Technician - Payroll Department: Business Services Pay Grade: O190 FLSA Status : Non-Exempt Reports to: Manager I - Payroll GENERAL PURPOSE Responsible for providing support to department activities with specific responsibility for processing timesheets, payroll batches, and establishing and maintaining department records; responding to inquiries; conveying information regarding department functions and procedures; and providing a variety of clerical support to assigned administrator and department. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Initiate and/or process changes in multiple systems ensuring accurate employee records, payments and notifications. Maintain a variety of manual and electronic documents, files, and records providing up-to-date information and/or historical reference in accordance with established administrative procedures. Perform general and program specific clerical functions to support departmental activities. Prepare payroll related documents and reports documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information. Process a variety of departmental payroll documents and materials ensuring timely and accurate payroll generation in compliance with established administrative guidelines. Resolve discrepancies with departmental payroll and perform base hour adjustments ensuring accuracy of records and accuracy of miscellaneous pay calculations. Respond to written and verbal inquiries from a variety of sources providing information, facilitating communication among parties and/or providing direction. Schedule a variety of activities to support departmental operations. Support assigned administrators providing information from which to make operational decisions. Perform other related duties as required/assigned. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent, required. Job related experience is required. Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge is required to perform simple math calculations; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include principles and techniques involved in payroll preparation, monitoring and control; labor contracts and their impact on payroll; and State Education Codes and other applicable laws. Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Skill based competencies required to perform the functions of the job, including preparing and maintaining accurate records; and using pertinent software applications. Ability to read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions. Ability to analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Ability to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Ability to work with others under a wide variety of circumstances; working with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate. The work is light work that requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
