Summer Camp Youth Development Professional I - Boys & Girls Club of Garfield Title: Youth Development Professional I Department: Programs Reports To: Program Director Position Overview: The Boys & Girls Club of Garfield is dedicated to empowering young individuals, especially those most in need, to achieve their fullest potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. For our Aftercare Program, we are looking for a professional, enthusiastic, and nurturing program Counselor. This key role involves supervising and engaging with campers to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and enriching summer experience. Operational Hours: Monday through Friday: 2:30PM to 6:30 PM Primary need: Availability for afternoon starting at 2:30 PM Job Description: The Program Counselor is essential for the smooth daily operations of our Aftercare Program, providing general supervision, promoting safety, and actively participating in all camp activities. Responsibilities also include routine cleaning and maintenance tasks to maintain a clean and safe environment. Responsibilities: Engage in all scheduled staff training sessions and meetings. Lead and assist campers in various activities, ensuring safe and engaging participation. Oversee daily activities, including outdoor and swimming sessions. Help teach or lead assigned activities. Model positive behaviors such as cleanliness, punctuality, and sportsmanship. Organize and lead different group activities, from small to large groups. Regularly disinfect frequently used items and areas. Ensure cleanliness by managing waste and recycling. Work collaboratively with fellow counselors and volunteers. Perform other necessary duties to support aftercare operations. Skills Required: Strong communication and organizational abilities. Knowledge of safety protocols and guidelines. Competency in multitasking and time management. Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. A strong desire and ability to work with children outdoors. Demonstrated character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, patience, and self-control. Requirements: Availability from as early as September 4th. Ability to work the entire school year with minimal interruptions. Capability to lift up to 50 pounds and engage actively for extended periods. Experience in camps, youth programs, recreation, or similar fields is preferred. First Aid, AED, BLS, CPR certifications are preferred. Proficiency in Google Apps (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Chat, Drive, Calendar). Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and communicate effectively via email. Additional Requirements Upon Hire: At least one professional reference. Staff Health Examination Form. Mantoux Test date and results. Physical Examination date. Fingerprinting information and Identogo receipt (required for candidates 18 and older). Two forms of ID, one of which must be a Social Security Number.
