TITLE: Building Custodian - Evening DEPARTMENT: Custodial REPORTS TO: Custodial Shift Manager and Director of Facilities QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalency required. Transferable Job related experience required. Excellent people skills and demonstrated ability to work with the public. Ability to add, multiply, divide, and understand weight measurements, volume and distance. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write supply requests and repair orders. Visual acuity to be able to see when areas are clean and to read and follow label directions, correspondence, etc. Demonstrated ability to perform routine tasks repeatedly and to the satisfaction of immediate supervisor. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team. Must be courteous and able to deal effectively with the public that use the facilities. Must be cooperative and service-oriented. Ability to work on all size ladders. Must have a valid Pa. Driver's license and have the ability to drive all district vehicles, excluding school buses. Ability to perform minor repairs. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the regular, ongoing custodial care of all school, office, athletic facilities and grounds in the assigned area. Meets schedules of work for individual sections of the building, and sees to it that proper supplies are on hand for the proper care of the facilities. Sets up for extra activities in your respective area or assists other staff in setting up for extra activities as directed by the Shift Supervisor, Director of Maintenance or Building Principal and is the point of contact for the public during the use of district facilities. Reviews the weekly building schedule so as to ensure that required setup and clean up for activities are completed in a timely and accurate manner. May be assigned to the floor crew for a program of cleaning and refinishing floors. Responsible for minor in-school repairs and emergency repairs as assigned. Responsible for replacement of four foot and u -bend fluorescent lamps in the assigned area of responsibility. Completes custodial help desk requests in the area of responsibility. Maintains an inventory of supplies in the assigned custodial closet, to be turned in monthly to the Custodial Shift Manager. Strives constantly to promote the safety, health and comfort of the students and employees. Provides suggestions for ongoing improvement to and efficiency of the custodial operations. Receives, unloads, distributes (as directed) and signs for material deliveries to the district Keeps sidewalks and emergency exits clear of snow, debris, and obstacles while the buildings are in use. Performs summer cleaning of buildings according to schedules developed by the Custodial Supervisor, along with the Director of Maintenance and Custodial Services. Other duties as requested by the Custodial Supervisor or the Director of Maintenance and Custodial Services. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to; Ability to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. Ability to talk and hear. Ability to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as custodial supplies and pails while unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lbs such as salt and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as scrubbers, tables, bleachers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job: The employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreases, and sprays. The employees will continually expose their hands, arms and other body parts to water and water / detergent combinations. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with stringent time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Rate: $14.57/hr. as per the negotiated contract for the probationary period of 60 working days; followed by the regular rate of $18.21/hr. after successful completion of the probationary period. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
