At Port Newark Auto Terminal, the Operations Manager is a key position as it provides leadership and direction to the Assistant Operations Managers as well as the union labor force to ensure a safe, efficient and productive terminal operation. Essential Duties : Prepare vessel and terminal operating quality control plan including vessel positioning upon arrival. Ensure facility readiness; Calculate and initiate labor hiring orders for ship and terminal operations. Pre-position labor and equipment as per operating plan; Coordinate ancillary support services with vessel and terminal operating plan. Position ship upon docking to ensure proper placement with vessel master; Supervise vessel, terminal and security services for handling passengers, baggage, cargo, equipment and inland transportation interface; Supervise stevedoring operations including unlash / lash; discharge / load ; deliver / receive and storage of vehicles; Provide customer services with vessel, passenger and cargo representatives; Ensure compliance with payroll procedures and confirm employment records; Compile and report on operational performance and obtain relevant billing data; Ensure compliance with OSH &E policies and procedures; Ensure compliance with industry OSHA Standards; Execute all local Association policies and procedures; Resolve local labor grievances; Monitor and report on any facility damages and maintenance items; Execute Ports America security and emergency plan assignments; Monitor show events and perform facility inspections; Availability to work varied hours and shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays as needed. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Marine Operations, Operations Management, Business Administration, or related discipline. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in Terminal Operations or closely related field. Obtain and maintain TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card) issued by the Department of Homeland Security Obtain a Pier Superintendent License issued by NJ State Police. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of terminal operations, planning and stevedore operations. Demonstrated leadership and experience managing union contracts and union labor. Knowledge of the applicable union work rules, collective bargaining agreements and Federal and state wage and hour laws; Experience in placing daily labor hiring orders to staff entire terminal. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with union and management staff. High level of planning and organizational skills. Requires ability to respond quickly and adapt to changes. Requires the ability to plan and organize multiple projects in fast paced environment. Knowledge of and commitment to safety and accident prevention, safety codes and regulations, and related industry governmental of OSHA Standards and procedures. Exceptional time management, due to fast-moving, demanding work environment. Experience and proficiency with computerized operating systems, terminal operating systems and other relevant technology. Must be computer literate; proficient with Microsoft Office - Outlook, Word, and Excel. Physical Working Attributes: Frequent walking, standing, bending, occasional sitting. Climb up and down stairs and equipment multiple times within a shift. Work on a ship and in a yard. Work in changing hot and cold climates based on weather conditions. Work in an environment with moving objects and machinery. The environment may be hazardous to persons unable to see or hear fast moving heavy equipment.
