The Mastectomy Fitter Trainee provides durable medical equipment (DME) and related items for mastectomy fitting services. Provides education to patients, families, and staff regarding processes and support programs as related to appearance changes from treatment. Works towards requirements to achieve certification as a mastectomy fitter. Will provide and or assist the Master Mastectomy/Lymphedema Fitter with lymphedema fitting services to patients. EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran Responsibilities 1. The Mastectomy Fitter performs both pre and post-surgical fittings for the patients. Fitter specializes in the fitting of external breast prostheses, prosthetic nipples, and mastectomy bras, and other mastectomy garments. This may include comfortable bras before surgery as well as camisoles with pockets to hold drains and compression bras post-surgery . Evaluates and assess the needs of each patient while consulting with the care team. Delivers other specialty products to support breast cancer patients to treat physiological asymmetry as a result of mastectomy, trauma, or congenital defect. The Mastectomy Fitter formulates a treatment plan, in compliance with federal and state laws. Treatment plans must be formulated to fulfill BOC/ABC and JC specifications. Experience/knowledge in other mastectomy specific accessories including: mastectomy swim suits, and swim prosthetics. Fitter evaluates all products for warranty purposes. Fitter required to document medical encounter for all patients in EMR. Adheres to all hospital and departmental infection control procedures, patient confidentiality procedures as well as all departmental operational procedures and guidelines. 2. The Mastectomy Fitter may also be a Certified Lymphedema Fitter, capable of supporting referrals from both Physical Therapy and Wound Clinic. Fitter must be able to fit compression for the management of lymphedema to affective peripheral body parts including, upper and lower extremities, head and neck, exterior genitalia, trunkal swelling, post-surgical and post traumatic swelling. Selection and fit are imperative and fitter must be able to identify best fit, style and brand for patient's needs. This includes the following selections, as well as custom variations: Arm sleeves, Gloves, Gauntlets, Knee hose, Thigh High Hose, Panty Hose, Night compression and Facioplasty Compression. Lastly, fitter must be able to identify patients who have contraindications for compression garments, and refer them to appropriate disease team. Adheres to all hospital and departmental infection control procedures; patient confidentiality procedures as well as all departmental operational procedures and guidelines. 3. Fitter participates in development and maintenance of the Boutique mastectomy fitting program. Must complete vendor required training on all cancer and patient products that are sold by The Boutique. Maintains current knowledgebase about available educational and support programs for patients and families on hair loss, breast surgery, and lymphedema and compression therapy. 4. Assists Boutique staff with inventory, price changes, tagging and receiving as required. Participates with staff education to assure physicians, and hospital staff are informed on the most current and state of the art DME garments. Assists manager and Master Fitter in BOC/ABC and JC approval process to assure all standards are met. Qualifications EDUCATION High School Diploma required; Associates Degree in healthcare related field preferred. Required to maintain certification as a Certified Mastectomy Fitter from either the Board of Certification (BOC) or the American Board for Certification (ABC) within two years of hire date. EXPERIENCE 1-3 years' of Experience in a Hospital and/or outpatient healthcare setting preferred. Experience using EMR documentation preferred. Experience interacting with cancer patients required. LICENSURE Mastectomy Fitter Certification from either the Board of Certification (BOC) or the American Board for Certification (ABC) within two years of hire date. SPECIAL SKILLS Ability to provide a positive experience to the clientele by demonstrating caring and sensitivity as well as a practical knowledge of the appropriate DME available to meet the clients' needs. PHYSICAL DEMAND The ability to stand for long periods of time, lift objects overhead as well as the ability to lift 25 pounds or more required. YNHHS Requisition ID 125109
