Job Description Viridian Staffing's Client is looking for an experienced accounting and financial professional to become the Controller for a Cannabis Operation in the Greater Boston, Massachusetts, area. This position can be remote in the Northeast, but monthly travel to Massachusetts will be required. Founded in 2013, Viridian Staffing ( has led the way as the Original staffing, recruiting, and HR consulting firm solely dedicated to organizations in and supporting the commercial, medical, and industrial cannabis / hemp industry. As the Controller, you'll be able to use your entrepreneurial spirit and your desire to lead the Accounting function by wearing multiple hats. This role provides you the opportunity to touch all aspects of Accounting and Finance from financial planning to the preparation and closing of monthly financial statements. You will be responsible for the maintenance of the general ledger and overseeing the preparation of all related payroll tax reports. As the lead member of the accounting team, you will facilitate cross-departmental relationships and will work with the CFO to ensure compliance with the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission's financial regulations. You bring with you exceptional experience in Excel and Quickbooks, that has assisted you in preparing complex journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, and in the preparation of annual audits. In previous roles, you have successfully managed and maintained cost, financial, and managerial Accounting systems, accounts receivable, payroll, accounts payable, and income tax preparation. If you have a bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting (MBA preferred), combined with a minimum of 5+ years' of public accounting or private company experience, this could be the right position for you. You preferably bring with you Big 4 accounting experience, start-up experience, and have worked as an Accountant within the cannabis, alcohol or other heavily regulated industry. Ideally, you are also a CPA, but are required to have working knowledge of GAAP. You have a successful track record and expertise in identifying and driving value in an organization, as well as a reputation for being a trusted business advisor who fosters strategic organizational improvement and success. You have a strong interest in overall business operations, and you are a big-picture thinker who is comfortable and effective working both at a strategic and a tactical level, and you enjoy both!
