RCD's mission is to create and preserve affordable housing for people with the fewest options, to build community, and enrich lives. RCD fosters strong, inclusive neighborhoods through strategies that address the health, economic development, education, and housing needs of residents across the community. Over the past 40 years, we have developed or preserved over 65 communities that provide affordable, high-quality, and service-enriched rental housing to 2,660 low-income households throughout the Bay Area. Through a robust pipeline, RCD is actively growing with over 1,000 new apartments in development or under construction. It's incredibly motivating to open the doors to residents and watch them thrive." -Dan Sawislak, Executive Director Requirements The Role The Communications Manager will work closely with the Communications Director to implement comprehensive communication strategies that promote RCD's mission, programs, and activities. This role will be actively engaged in managing internal and external communications, digital media, and fundraising efforts to strengthen RCD's brand and engage key stakeholders. Responsibilities Website Management & Content Creation Manage and update the RCD website, including pages for properties under development, career page updates, and annual website refreshes. Co-create and update web content, including quarterly newsletter and annual report webpages, and ensure accessibility and integration of RCD's mission and values. Develop and execute social media strategies to enhance visibility and engagement with collaboration and oversight from the Communications Director. Oversee the creation of visual content, including staff photos, property photos, and event photography. Events & Outreach Assist in planning and executing events such as grand openings, groundbreakings, hard hat tours, and our annual fundraiser. Design event materials, including posters, programs, and sponsorship forms. Design marketing assets such as fact sheets to support Policy Manager's outreach. Partner with Real Estate Development (RED) to draft and send pipeline property updates. Brand Integrity & Internal Communications Ensure RCD's branding and messaging remain consistent across all platforms and materials. Support internal communications efforts, including creating bi-monthly department reports, training staff on communication protocols, and maintaining a repository of stories and photos that illustrate RCD's impact. Fundraising Support RCD's fundraising efforts by drafting communications for events such as Sparking Connections and winter campaigns. Collaborate with Director of Communications to develop and execute a fundraising strategy, including individual and institutional fundraising. Assist with creating fundraising messages and grant applications as needed. Ensure timely data entry and acknowledgment of all grants and donations. Other Responsibilities Provide support for RFPs, PowerPoint presentations, and other communications for internal and external stakeholders. Work closely with Real Estate Development (RED) to design construction banners, fact sheets, and documentation of RCD's development experience. Assist with special projects, including property naming and submitting RCD for awards. Qualifications & Skill Set Five or more years of communications or fundraising experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting. Strong writing and editing skills with a demonstrated ability to produce clear and engaging content for various audiences. Proficiency in design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) and email marketing platforms. Experience with website management (WordPress preferred) and social media platforms. Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines. Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field. Work Environment RCD is currently practicing a hybrid work model. Depending on your distance from our main office in Berkeley, you will be expected to work up to two days in the office. Travel Requirements The responsibilities of this position will require occasional travel to off-site locations around the San Francisco Bay Area. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, speak and hear. Requires frequent use of a keyboard, computer monitor and phone. Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to lift up to twenty (20) pounds occasionally. The salary range for this position is $88,200 to $92,850 based on factors including experience, qualifications, role specialization, and market conditions. Salary placement within this range considers current and past employees' salaries for similar roles, budgetary limits, and market demand.
