Job Summary Evaluates and treats injured, disabled, and diseased orthopedic patients through the use of various physical agents, splints and exercises in accordance with the physician's orders and department policy. Essential Functions • Assesses, consults with physician, develops plan of care/goals with patient and family. Provides treatment based on physician orders. • Observes patient status and recommends changes in plan as appropriate. • Documents patient information for medical record. • Uses devices/apparatus applicable to OT treatments. Fabricates splints, braces, hand/wrist covers, etc., to support hand and upper extremity therapy. • Educates in verbal and written form patient/family about home exercise programs. • Serves as staff resource on occupational therapy issues. • Other duties as assigned. The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to job position. Skills and Abilities • Knowledge of occupational therapy principles, standards and applications. • Knowledge of how to use OT equipment, devices, and manufacture patient-specific therapeutic devices. • Knowledge of clinic policies and regulations related to infection control, safety, QI. • Skill in appropriately evaluating and treatment of patients. • Skill in proper use of equipment and devices. • Skill in understanding of policies and regulations through providing comfortable, orderly, clean and safe clinic environment. • Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, physicians and other staff and establish/maintain effective relationships. • Ability to assist in upkeep and organization of exam/exercise rooms, supplies, equipment. • Ability to set priorities and organize patient workload effectively. Standard Qualifications Education: B.S. in Occupational Therapy Program. Licensed as an Occupational Therapist in the state of Indiana. Experience: Minimum of two years experience in a clinic setting. New graduates considered. Physical/Mental Demands Extensive physical activities including standing, stooping, lifting, reaching, bending, twisting. Must be able to transport/transfer patient safely. Requires ability to lift/carry and move equipment and supplies up to 50 pounds. Occasional stress from dealing with workload and noncompliant patients. Environmental/Working Conditions Combination of office and treatment areas. Exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to a clinic setting. Exposure to electrical equipment and cleaning solutions. Frequent contact with staff, patients and visitors. Work may be stressful at times. Interactions with others are constant and interruptive.
