The Chief Strategy & Financial Officer (CSFO) leads organization-wide strategic activities that enhance Trees Forever's impact in its communities and programs. This role brings a strategic community-centered view of work, aligning programmatic efforts and leveraging expertise across teams to fulfill Trees Forever's mission. The CSFO co-stewards the strategic plan alongside the CEO, ensuring that programs are data-driven, impact focused, and executed with precision. This role is also responsible for establishing and maintaining partnerships within communities and across the development/finance ecosystem and supports resource development. The CSFO is responsible for the management and oversight of Trees Forever and its Foundation's financial and administrative functions, including financial accounting and reporting, review and analysis of financial records; budgets and projections; fund administration; investment management practices; audit and tax compliance; human resources management; building maintenance. As a senior leader, the CSFO collaborates closely with the CEO and acts on their behalf when required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Strategic Leadership Create and implement tools to support the organization's integrated cycle of planning, evaluation, learning and adaption. Collaborate with other departments to review and update program strategies, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Provide strategic analysis and recommendations as required to support board and executive management's decision making and resolution of strategic issues. Ensure that decision making remains in alignment with the organization's short- and long-term strategies and goals. Develop recommendations to executive leadership for relevant policies and procedures pertaining to strategic planning, learning and impact. Prepare financial analysis and reports for the Board, CEO, and other Executive Team. Collaborate with CEO and Committee Chair to ensure compliance. Program & Partnership Development and Management In partnership with the CEO, identify and establish strategic partnerships that enhance the organization's ability to meet its mission, strengthen the regional ecosystem, and advance environmental advocacy; monitor and assess the performance of partnerships, ensuring alignment to meet mutual goals. Oversee development and implementation of new program offerings that respond to community needs, leverage organization competencies, complement existing offerings, are financially sustainable, and include metrics for success. Lead planning and budgeting for new initiatives and programs with an eye toward sustainability, transparency, and accountability. Work with programmatic staff to implement programs, defining strategies and developing operational plans. Support staff as appropriate with program management of new initiatives on an as needed basis. Guide program prioritization, ensuring the organization's programs, initiatives, and activities are aligned with Trees Forever's strategic plan. Financial Management Lead all accounting and finance functions, including general ledger management and account reconciliation, quarterly financial statement reporting, and maintaining internal controls. Oversee the development of the budget. Monitor the approved budget through review of quarterly financial statements and mid-year projection. Audit and Tax Compliance Maintain relationship with CPA firm for performance of Tree's Forever annual audit of the financial statements and preparation of all tax returns. Coordinate of all audit activities, including planning, fieldwork, and delivery of the audit report to the Board. Work with Controller to provide all information requested by CPA firm for the audit and completion of all tax returns. Human Resources Management Work with consultant to develop and maintain employee policies and handbook. Maintain hiring and orientation practices. Ensure payroll is processed correctly and all filings are completed on time. Monitor employee benefits administration, including performing annual evaluation of all employee benefits. Coordinate performance management, including performance assessments and goal setting, in collaboration with the CEO to determine compensation. Building Maintenance Oversee the maintenance of the Marion campus. Develop and maintain vendor relations and agreements for outside services. Develop and monitor long-term building plan. Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale, complex and enterprise projects or programs. Deep understanding of project management tools, budget planning tools, resource allocation tools, and agile tools. Ability to operate with flexibility, creativity, but with accountability while maintaining respect for others' concern. High level of non-profit accounting and finance knowledge. Self-starter; able to multitask while also being highly detail-oriented. Excellent verbal and written communication. Experience working with boards, committees, and donors. Ability to lead a team. Mature judgment. Strong organizational abilities. Ability to handle complex assignments. Strong analytical skills. Excellent internal and external customer service skills. Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct supervision of Finance and Operations Manager and Finance Assistant. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: Full-time Preferred Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline required. An MBA or Master of Strategic Leadership preferred. Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management and accounting, with at least 5 years of experience in a nonprofit organization. Additional Eligibility Qualifications: CPA certification is preferred. Experience in nonprofit administration, organizational development, community or economic development, and/or program development and management is highly desirable.
