looking for a strong Tax Mgr. Candidates will work from home about 4 days a week and 1 day in the office. Essential Functions and Primary Duties - Direct the Individual and Fiduciary Tax Practice o Assist the COO in coordinating all 1040 and 1041 tax preparation staffing assignments at the beginning of tax season and ongoing monitoring of all deadlines and staff workloads on a weekly basis, including resolving logjams in production o Assist the Client Services Coordinator with updating the comprehensive distribution of client materials at the beginning of tax season (engagement letters, multiple tax organizers, etc.), to accommodate our legacy (paper) clients as well as portal clients o Assist the Owner with developing enhanced billing practices that focus both on realization as well as more complete year-round sets of services to individuals (e.g., projections, estate planning, etc.), with implementation in advance of the tax season o Oversee all incoming individual tax communications (portal, fax, phone, mail, delivery) and direct a documentation-driven method for timely service and realization (e.g., calls to the Owner will no longer be routed to the Owner but filtered through a process) o Assist the Owner and COO, prior to the start of the tax season, with evaluating proposed improvements to the tech stack that drives the internal individual tax processes o Develop a thorough, timely, documentation-driven system with the handling of all tax notices and examinations (currently subscribed to Canopy) o Develop streamlined improvements to the individual tax files, paperless since 2013 (e.g., checklists, lead sheets) o Review and sign, as preparer, individual and fiduciary tax returns, sharing sign-off responsibilities with the Owner, and with more difficult matters, sharing in limited preparation responsibilities (Currently using Client Ultra Tax - server based) o Engage with individual clients prior to year-end (i.e., month of December) to aggressively promote projections and planning opportunities using our software Other Responsibilities o To improve staff growth/performance, implement documented review points for tax preparers o Participate in a newly created quarterly and annual staff performance review process o Train and mentor associate staff o Identify practice development/cross-selling opportunities Qualifications o CPA or EA required o Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Business, graduate education a plus o 6-8 years of experience in public accounting o 2 years of supervisory experience o Demonstrated research skills on tax issues (we currently subscribe to RIA Checkpoint) o Ability to manage deadlines, work on multiple assignments and prioritize as necessary o Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing, internally and externally o Proficient use of applicable technology (tech stack - Liscio, Karbon, Office 365, Adobe Acrobat DC, QBW and QBO, Zoom, 8X8, Ultra Tax, Right Networks, with more to come) Benefits o Firm-paid medical, dental, vision for employees, 50% paid for family members o Simple IRA with matching to be implemented mid-year o AFLAC (employee paid) -various insurance coverages o PTO accruing 12 day per month; Full Holiday Observances o Vacation Policy that starts with two weeks (no vacation permitted 1/1-4/30) o Firm-provided hardware to facilitate remote work o Participation in various CPE sessions and conferences/webinars Schedule o Monday to Friday o Firm currently evaluating remote work for the May-December timeframe
