Description Job Overview: The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for overseeing the accounting cycle, streamlining systems and procedures, working with all areas of the organization to ensure accuracy of financial results and adherence to internal controls, and financial reporting and analysis. Additionally, job duties support the Financial Controller and Director with the preparation and maintenance of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Duties and Responsibilities: Prepares and assists in reviewing and approving adjusting journal entries to accurately close the monthly fiscal period in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles Prepares and assists in reviewing and approving various reconciliations of accounts and journal entries related to such accounts Performs and documents analysis of accounting transactions, including comparisons to forecasted and trended results; Questions/validates data provided, gather additional information, request clarification/backup documentation, correct inaccuracies to address other needs/issues prior (or subsequent) to the initiation of processing activities Assists in the coordination of the month end closings, quarterly reviews and year-end audits Assists with the preparation of a monthly financial review package Assists in periodic operating or capital budgets in conjunction with departmental heads and other finance departments Assists in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements with footnotes Maintains positive internal customer relationships by providing prompt and appropriate responses to inquiries, issues, and concerns when appropriate Maintains audit schedules and requests status during quarterly reviews and year-end audits Provides input into department's goal setting process Performs supervisory responsibilities such as planning, assigning, reviewing and directing work, coaching and appraising performance of direct reports Mentors and trains subordinate staff accountants/clerk Maintains high level confidentiality of data Other duties and responsibilities as assigned Job Requirements: (please ensure you meet the listed requirements prior to applying) High School diploma or GED required or currently enrolled and successfully complete a GED program within 6 months from start date as a condition of continued employment Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older Associate's Degree in Related field- required OR Two (2) years' Supervisory experience- required OR One (1) year experience as a Dual-Rate Supervisor in a PCI Gaming Department- required OR Two (2) years' experience in the hiring position's Department- required Bachelor Degree in Accounting or related field- required; CPA- preferred Four (4) years of accrual accounting experience including reconciliation/analysis and interaction with business unit management experience- required Four (4) years of experience in Financial Accounting month-end/year-end close process- required For External Candidates Only: an accounting skill test will be administered and a 70% passing score for this position- required Knowledge and practice of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)- required Experience with accounting software- required; Great Plains experience- preferred Consolidation, revenue recognition, fixed asset, and/or accounts payable experience- preferred Intermediate to Expert level in Microsoft Excel; Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook Must be proficient and accurate in operating a 10-Key calculator and in accurately and efficiently typing on a computer keyboard Must be a self-starter and have the ability to multi-task to meet tight deadlines Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form Must be able to sit for long periods of time and view information displayed on a computer screen Must be able to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds Must be able to get along well with all levels of the organization and excel in a team oriented environment Willing to work odd and irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays Willing to travel and participate in training as recommended or required Must have an Occupational License (or the ability to obtain and maintain a license) pursuant to the Illinois Gaming Act and remain in good standing with the Illinois Gaming Board as a requirement for this position Online applications are accepted at For internal employees, please submit your Internal Job Posting Form to your property's Human Resources office.
