Will include any time WBUR on-air operations are live. At WBUR, our Engineering, Operations & IT department is pivotal to maintaining and advancing the technical infrastructure that supports our news production and distribution. This department is responsible for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of broadcast equipment, digital platforms, and communication networks. Within WBUR Engineering, Operations & IT, our Production team supports a variety of groups. This team is responsible for the operation of live on-air boards during any period where we are not in automation. This teams edits & mixes pieces from reporters, promos - including fundraising, and other departments as required. As Broadcast Recording Technician II, you will be responsible for the on-air engineering and production of WBUR broadcast quality audio, consisting primarily of on-air studio console operation and digital editing/mixing. You will help provide coverage for vacation and sick-time of other Broadcast Recording Technicians and Technical Directors. You will need to work late hours and weekends as required in a flexible shift arrangement. You will also assist the Production Manager in the scheduling and management of WBUR studio usage. Essential Functions: (30%) Responsible for the engineering of WBUR#s on-air signal. Operates air-studio audio console. Preview all sound elements with critical ear to ensure broadcast quality, and maintains proper volume levels and balance during playback. Serves as #Operator On Duty. Responsible for airing all underwriting announcements according to Program Log, noting in writing any changes to fulfill contractual obligations. (20%) Edit and mix WBUR local news stories, promotional announcements and other non-news material as assigned by the Production Manager using the latest digital technology, including Pro Tools. (15%) Record both news and non-news events at remote locations for possible use in various programs as assigned. May include recording and editing of lectures or forums for possible broadcast, and listener testimonials for use during on-air fundraisers. (25%) Provide coverage for vacation and sick-time of other Broadcast Recording Technicians, and Technical Directors. (10%) Assist the Production Manager in scheduling of WBUR studio usage. Escort studio guests in and out of WBUR studios. Other duties as assigned, including participation in station. This position is covered under our collective bargaining agreement with the L2324 union and the minimum pay rate for this position is $25.51 per hour. Additionally, when compensation is being evaluated for a candidate finalist, that amount can increase as experience and internal equity are factored into the offer amount. Required Skills What You'll Need to Succeed: Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree or equivalent/relevant experience 1-3 years of related or equivalent experience. Prior audio experience with professional level mixing boards. Capabilities and Proficiencies: An excitement about WBUR's mission to provide an essential public good: high-quality journalism and enriching experiences that foster understanding, connection and community. Advanced skills with ProTools audio editing software. Familiarity with Office 365 email and calendaring suite. Advanced computer and technical skills, and equipment operation. Proficient written and oral communication skills.
