SUMMARY The Manager of Inbound Transportation is a key member of the Transportation Management team. This position is responsible for the management of inbound transportation and consolidation teams which manage inbound purchase orders across regional geographical areas. This role is accountable for inbound purchase order on-time performance and operational efficiency of consolidation centers. While ensuring both cost effective transportation service and customer/vendor satisfaction. This role is the Subject Matter Expert for US domestic transportation, and a deep working knowledge and skill set leading transportation (Truckload, Rail and Less than Truckload -) and logistics operations in a complex, multi-site DC environment. Responsible for the coaching, training, development, and leadership of the Inbound transportation team. JOB DUTIES Ensure on-time performance for critical vendor inbound purchase orders and compliance with Joann policies, while resolving complaints. Manage third-party providers for truckload, intermodal, and less-than-truckload operations, collaborating with IT to enhance inbound programs. Lead procurement and contract management, optimizing sourcing, ordering, and transit with major vendors. Improve inbound load planning through order consolidation and carrier selection via the Transportation Management System (TMS). Develop supplier performance metrics and a logistics cost reporting process to reduce costs as a percentage of COGS, maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs). Lead the design and implementation of network strategies for domestically sourced merchandise to optimize cost and service, conduct flow analysis for mode selection, and ensure supply chain systems support these strategies. Manage inbound logistics teams, fostering excellence through performance management, and use metrics to identify optimal freight solutions while ensuring on-time performance for critical vendor inbound purchase orders, compliance with Joann policies, and resolution of customer complaints. Develops and lead the growth and development of the inbound transportation team. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Direct management of team members including training, coaching, performance feedback, and work assignment designed to promote team and individual growth. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Education Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in supply chain, logistics or business discipline Experience Minimum: 6+ years of management experience in transportation or supply chain operations, preferably in the retail industry. WORKING CONDITIONS This role requires in-person attendance 4 days a week at the Store Support Center (SSC) located in Hudson, OH. Flexibility to work remotely when requested is determined by management and business needs. Some travel required to Distribution Centers or third-party vendors. Sit or stand at a workstation for extended periods while maintaining focus and productivity. Move around an office space and between buildings on a large campus, including reaching for files, retail product, supplies, or equipment, as well as the ability to adapt to various workstation setups. Work standard business hours and extended hours as needed based on task and project demands. Utilization of all communication styles - written, verbal, electronic options. Lift and carry office supplies, documents, retail product or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds as needed for tasks such as organizing or setting up workstations. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Strong negotiating and 3rd party management skills. Deep working and technical knowledge of transportation management systems designed for problem solving, daily optimization and routing, and strategic/design optimization solution. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written format to all levels of leadership. Data driven, ability to analyze large data sets using well-honed computer software skills to develop insights and conclusions for the business. General working knowledge of transportation regulatory and compliance requirements Ability to think strategically and fiscally from an overall company perspective. Possess natural leadership qualities, evidenced by a bias for action, the ability to motivate and mobilize people, and deliver results.
