Your role in our success: The Data & BI Architect is responsible for designing, creating, and managing Chesapeake's data architecture. This role is critical in establishing a solid foundation for data management, ensuring that data is organized, accessible, secure, and aligned with business objectives. The data architect will design warehouses, file systems and databases, and define how data will be collected and organized. This role requires the person be an experienced leader with deep hands-on experience in statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and customer analytics. What you'll be working on: Designs, implements and maintains the structure and layout of data systems, including databases, warehouses, and lakes that meet the business requirements of the organization. Selects and implements database management systems that meet the organization's needs by defining data schemas, optimizing data storage, and establishing data access controls and security measures. Evaluates and recommends emerging technologies for data management, storage, and analytics. Defines and implements the long-term technology strategy and innovations roadmaps across analytics, data engineering, and data platforms. Manages senior business stakeholders to secure strong engagement and ensures that the delivery of the project aligns with longer-term strategic roadmaps. Leads and participates in the peer review and quality assurance of project architecture across the organization through governance forums. Defines and manages standards, guidelines, and processes to ensure data quality. Simplifies the existing data architecture, delivering reusable services and cost-saving opportunities in line with the policies and standards of the company. Leads projects involving data warehousing, data modeling, and data analysis providing proactive and appropriate communication (written and verbally) to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Process Orientation: Identifies problems and initiates necessary changes; designs practices, procedures, and systems to manage work simply. Decision-Making: Considers the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one; acts decisively and swiftly. Who you are: Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science or foreign equivalent from an accredited institution. Ten (10) years of relevant experience in BI and analytics which includes: Five (5) years of experience as a data architect in the design and implementation of data models for enterprise data warehouse Experience leading projects involving data warehousing, data modeling, and data analysis Experience in the design and implementation of data architectures and concepts such as cloud services Azure Databricks, PySpark Experience with database technologies such as SQL, NoSQL, HANA, Oracle, Hadoop, or Teradata Experience with business intelligence tools and technologies such as ETL, Power BI, and Tableau Experience in the design and implementation of modern data architectures and concepts such as cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP), real-time data distribution (Kafka, Dataflow), and modern data warehouse tools (Snowflake, Databricks) Experience programming languages such as Java, Python C/C++. Experience in entity-relationship modeling, metadata systems, and data quality tools and techniques Valid Driver's License Analysis: Works with data to identify patterns, uses judgment to form conclusions that may challenge conventional wisdom, and focuses on the crux of issues to identify high leverage intervention points and strategies. Initiative: Must display initiative, be able to work independently and have good problem solving and analytical skills. Creativity: Applies original and innovative thinking to produce new ideas and create innovative products. Communication: Conveys complex and technical business issues to diverse audiences, and projects a highly credible, polished image in presentations and communications, Must be highly organized, possess strong attention to detail, and demonstrate the ability to work under pressure. Ability to synthesize and clearly communicate large volumes of complex information to senior management of various technical understandings. Ability to collaborate and excel in complex, cross-functional teams involving data scientists, business analysts, and stakeholders. Ability to work with other senior and junior associates; provide coaching to others on the team. Proven ability to quickly learn new applications, processes, and procedures that are supported at Chesapeake Utilities Corporation.
