An employee in this class is accountable and responsible for the management activities of a specific portion of a departmental control, operational, or reporting activity or for providing a citywide service function of equal responsibility. The Manager I for DDOT Maintenance Shop Operations will manage the operation of DDOTs four bus maintenance facilities, which employ over 80 mechanics and service a fleet of 292 buses. The Manager I will be accountable for all shop floor repairs and strategic follow-through at the satellite garages. The incumbent oversees the Superintendent in maintaining optimal service performance and for identifying and/or resolving issues to better support the Authoritys strategies, programs, and initiatives. The incumbent will act on behalf of the Superintendent during their absence and may cover various shifts, including evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays, and special events. Examples of Duties + Manages the methods, procedures, workflow, priorities, and operations of a department's major section or staff activity. + Develops and implements methods to evaluate current systems and identifies critical areas for improvement. + Develops and implements procedures to improve processes and quality of services. + Aligns operational goals with department strategic plan and coordinates their implementation and evaluation. + Manages Function's tasks and obtains approval and assistance from higher-level management for actions to broaden service or control strategies. + Administers the implementation and management of special programs and projects. + Instruct employees on policy interpretation. + Participates in joint activities with other division managers and department representatives to address customer service concerns. + Implements and evaluates plans to resolve organizational and operational problems. + Establishes goals, measurements, and performance standards aligned with the department mission. + Evaluate employee performance through collaboration on assignments and projects and review of results. + Collaborates with employees on their professional skills and competency development. + Confers with employees on questions and concerns of performance, attendance, conduct, and changes to policies and procedures. + Prepares section annual budget. + Supervise and prepare analytical and statistical reports. + Serves on committees and teams for special projects and initiatives + Diagnoses malfunctions and performs vehicle repairs (e.g. adjust/test steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, clutches, transmissions, and oil, temperature, gas regulating components, adjust/test/rebuild engines, etc.) and related assigned duties within qualification level, under all relevant Federal, State and local guidelines and requirements + Manage preventive maintenance and unscheduled repairs for the vehicles serviced. + Establishes or implements service goals, measurements, and performance standards aligned with the agency's governance goals + Provides supervisory support, technical oversight, and administrative oversight for the personnel and activities at satellite garages. + Provide leadership to build a strong, collaborative, and high-functioning team. + Maintain strong electronic filing, documentation tracking, and organizational in-shop operations. Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications: + Experience completing repairs of diesel engines, with an ideal experience of at least 5 years repairing or maintaining Cummins diesel engines + 5 years of professional experience in fleet management + ASE Certification as a Master Automotive Technician and/or a Master Truck Technician + Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and especially using formulas in Microsoft Excel (e.g., add, multiply, etc.) Bachelor's degree in a related field of study. Five years of work related experience that includes two years of professional administrative experience directly related to the specified position, including line supervisory or team leader responsibility and authority. Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.
