Who we are looking for: We are currently searching for a Cost Accountant II to be based out of our Wayne, Michigan facility. Reporting to the Plant Controller, this person will be responsible for the preparation, analysis and maintenance of accounting records and financial statements. This position will have a key role in transitioning Wayne operations to an activity-based costing model. What you'll do: Assist in transition of Wayne operations to an activity based costing model and tracking of relevant work center expenses and variances Support development, maintenance and analysis of plant standard costs Review updates of BOMs, routings and impacts of cost changes and COGS analysis Analyze annual standard costs updates Analyze standard to actual cost variances. Recommend corrective actions as indicated by performance to meet P&L and working capital targets E&O preparation and analysis Perform financial analytics pertaining to month-end close Participate in monthly operations accounting close and reporting activities in a timely and accurate manner Forecasting and budgeting -Assist plant controller in preparation, assembly and comparative analysis of Forecasts and Budgets Monthly/Annually Assist in capital expenditure preparation including cost/benefit analysis WIP Analysis -Assist controller in review and analysis as well as, calculation of the Monthly WIP for purposes of Monthly financial reporting Review GRNI/In-transit Prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations Work with plant controller on various ad hoc requests Maintain strict confidentiality of company information, financial or otherwise Participate in yearly physical inventory & weekly cycle counts Other duties as assigned What you'll bring: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance 3-5 years cost accounting/finance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly with excel (Vlookup, Pivot Tables) Ability to quickly learn and utilize various software applications and financial reporting data Experience with JD Edwards preferred Ability to think through issues and concerns, and address Strong attention to detail Ability to quickly and efficiently research and interpret financial data Business acumen sufficient to perform analysis independently Capacity to perform at a high level in a fast paced multi-tasking environment Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) Within 3 months, you'll: Complete your Atkore Immersion Program Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's Business System through Lean Daily Management and the Strategy Deployment Process. Gain an understanding of your team and the Operations Management team. Understand Atkore policies for accounting and internal controls, including GAAP. Within 6 months, you'll: Independently participate in month-end operations close activities. Contribute to financial analytics pertaining to month-end close. Build and prepare general ledger entries and balance sheet reconciliations. Support development, maintenance, and analysis of plant standard costs. Within 12 months, you'll: Assist in refinement of Wayne operation's activity-based costing model and tracking. Analyze standard to actual cost variances and recommend corrective actions.
