Requisition # S01394P FLSA Non-Exempt Location IIT-Mies Campus (MC), 10 West 35th St., Chicago Department Department of Psychology GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Center for Health Equity, Education, and Research (CHEER)at the Illinois Institute of Technology is seeking Community Research and Engagement Coordinator to increase the community's involvement in research to reduce health disparities, especially disparities in mental health. More can be learned about us at This position will be ideal for someone who has an understanding of science/research, is open about their own experiences with mental health challenges, and enjoys facilitating trainings and presentations. COMMUNICATIONS Employee will perform written, verbal, and electronic communications within the department, with other university departments, with community partners, collaborating researchers, research participants, the general public, and funding institutions. CUSTOMER SERVICE This position requires customer service-related skills in communications with research participants, including during the recruitment and participant retention components of research. Special Schedule Requirements Work hours are generally weekdays, 9- 5 but may include occasional evenings, overnight travel to trainings/conferences, and recruitment/data collection in the community. The position is in-person with possibility for occasional (1-2 days per week) work-from-home. The position is part-time with possibility for full-time. Qualifications Education & Experience High school or equivalent (required) Lived experience with mental health challenge At least one year participating in community-based participatory research projects and/or community-engaged research Proven record of oral presentations and training. Experience in planning and schedule management Knowledge & Skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Time management Multi-tasking Organizational skills Analytical and problem-solving abilities Documentation management Adheres to guidelines on protection of research participants. Attention to detail Proficiency in typing, Microsoft Office software, and general computer skills SUPERVISION & BUDGET AUTHORITY No supervisory or budget responsibilities required. Physical Environment and Requirements Job requires 10% walking or standing in the community or around campus for data collection, recruitment, community presentations/trainings, meetings. None required Key Responsibilities Key Responsibility Develops and conducts trainings and presentations about mental health research opportunities, research findings and mental health services. Percentage Of Time 20 Key Responsibility Builds relationships with community-based organizations and healthcare agencies that serve people with mental illness by attending community events, being a spokesperson/ambassador for CHDC programming, and serving on key committees/boards related to engagement priorities. Percentage Of Time 10 Key Responsibility Facilitates community-based participatory research meetings. Percentage Of Time 10 Key Responsibility Assists with IRB applications, survey/questionnaire development, data collection, data analysis and dissemination/implementation activities Percentage Of Time 25 Key Responsibility Recruits research participants in the community. Percentage Of Time 5 Key Responsibility Encourages community involvement in research through outreach and mentorship of community members. Percentage Of Time 5 Key Responsibility Develops electronic and print media for recruitment and dissemination activities, including web/ social media content. Percentage Of Time 5 Key Responsibility Assists with grant applications and grant reporting. Percentage Of Time 5 Key Responsibility Accurately documents interactions with community members and research participants.
