Cherokee/Dakota- Split Shift 8hrs/day 2:30pm-11:00pm $16.49/hr Replacing Justine Miller Effective asap Position Summary Performs a variety of building cleaning and facilities and grounds maintenance work in schools and administrative buildings by maintaining assigned work areas including kitchens, cafes, classrooms, bathrooms, offices, locker rooms and other workrooms within the school and the building's exterior and grounds. Monitors and ensures building cleanliness and security; performs preventative, minor, and exterior maintenance; receives, stocks, and delivers supplies. Principal Duties and Responsibilities (These duties and responsibilities are judged to be "essential functions" in terms of the Americans With Disabilities Act or ADA) Cleans and sweeps hallways and stairwells, classroom, offices, cafeterias, gymnasiums and other rooms; empties waste baskets possibly weighing nearly 50 lbs; dusts furniture, cleans doors, windows and trim; removes stains from floors, walls, and glass. Strips old wax from and applies new wax to floors using hand and power tools; wet mops and buffs floors. Cleans, sanitizes and maintains rest rooms, locker rooms and/or swimming pools; and replaces bathroom supplies such as soap dispensers, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. Replaces light bulbs; makes simple minor adjustments and repairs to plumbing, electrical, and other building fixtures; checks heating and ventilation of building and replaces filters in heating and ventilating units. Washes windows, display cases, glass doors, and mirrors; cleans and polishes stainless steel and other metal work. Cleans and maintains tile, carpet, wood and other floor surfaces and baseboards. Cleans and maintains a variety of other surfaces such as replacing ceiling tiles, washing walls, marker boards, counter, sinks and table tops, lockers, etc. Monitors buildings and grounds, reports hazardous or other defective conditions. Picks up trash from grounds, empties exterior waste containers and adjacent areas. Removes snow and ice and salts sidewalks to maintain and ensure the safety of exterior walkways; and removes and disposes of trash from school grounds and exterior trash containers. Responds to emergency furnishing, equipment, and facility damages by cleaning bathroom and sick-child accidents, repairing damaged furniture, assembling of furniture or equipment as needed, removing all forms of graffiti within and on the building's exterior, and repairing vandalized equipment. Participates in the set-up and tear-down of seating and tables used for administrative meetings, after-school events, evening and weekend activities including athletic events, concerts, plays, community education classes, dances, guest speakers, etc. Performs regular inspections necessary for basic preventative maintenance; and performs minor maintenance such as completing painting, plumbing, electrical, carpentry/structural, HVAC, and other building maintenance work. Performs maintenance, cleaning, and sanitation of special building facilities such as swimming pools, deck areas, and related operational systems; performs daily testing of pool water and maintains appropriate pool Ph balances; conducts safety checks of pool area; and completes State of Michigan Health Department forms as necessary. This is the function of a Custodian that has received Certified Pool Operators licensing or aquatic facility if 3rd shift custodian at the High School. Secures building when facilities are not in use, checking for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights. Responds to notification of burglar and/or fire alarms from District approved Security companies. Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor. Education: This position requires a high school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.). Experience: Minimum of six (6) months of related experience in custodial and building maintenance and general building repair and preventative maintenance, preferred. Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations: The job may require: A valid State of Michigan Chauffeur's License Must take and pass vertical lift certification. 3rd Shift custodian at HS'-Must obtain certified pool operator's license as soon as possible after being hired. Knowledge: Basic knowledge of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems and processes, required. Basic knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions related to building maintenance, required. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of works, rules of composition, and grammar, required. Knowledge of basic computer skills, required. Knowledge of blood borne pathogen guidelines, required Abilities: Ability to read and interpret district policies, guidelines, handbook, and government regulations, required. Ability to read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, required. Ability to write simple correspondence, required. Ability to communicate effectively using the English language with students and school administrators and staff, required. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, required. Ability to solve practical problems involving several concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, required. Ability to effectively use basic computer software applications, required. Ability to perform job duties using various types of equipment including but not limited to; mops, all varieties of vacuums, floor machines, power tools, ladders, hand tools, gator type vehicles, snow blowers, etc, required. Ability to perform job duties using a variety of cleaning chemicals, required. Ability to perform job duties in extreme hot and/or cold temperatures, required. Ability to operate and work with pallet jack when moving items more than 50lbs, required.
