Job Description Lead Software Engineer (Front-End) Hearst Newspapers is looking for a talented front-end engineer to help us. Lead engineers play a crucial role on our engineering team, helping overseer the architecture and overall implementation plans for all of our user facing applications. Lead engineers collaborate in an agile software development environment with other members of our team including engineers, QA, designers, as well as product managers and project managers. They have a deep impact in our UI development processes by establishing and documenting development standards and common components for common usage across all of our web applications. Responsibilities We are looking for someone with a solid technical background and leadership skills, able to work in a fast-paced environment, building software that scales. As lead engineer, you provide development leadership within an agile team. As someone with a strong software development experience, you guide teams into building the highest quality solutions to business problems. You'll then work with engineers by sharing your knowledge based upon your cooperation with other departments. You will help us consistently deliver on ongoing projects. Team mentorship Facilitate project estimates Project coding and platform development Understand front end development process Keep up to date on the latest technologies Mitigate project issues Team code reviews Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or 7+ years front end development Excellent communication skills, ability to work well in a team, and technical leadership experience Strong customer focus, ownership, urgency, and drive. The reasonable estimate, if hired in New York State, is $180,000.00. Please note this information is specific to those hired in New York State. If this role is open to candidates outside of New York State, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate's starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
