Description: Job Summary: The regional director for the Division of Research leads one of the largest research centers in the country, including an expansive research portfolio, over $130 Million + of federal, state, industry, and institutionally funded research in epidemiology, delivery science, clinical trials, social and health-related disparities, patient-centered outcomes, and other topics; and oversight of a large multidisciplinary team including over 800 research professionals and investigators, as well as informational technology, operational, and administrative team members. The Division manages a research clinic for clinical examination and biospecimen collection to support cohort studies; case-control studies; clinical trials; and hundreds of thousand data points for a collaborative genomics research program. The regional director, in partnership with The Permanente Medical Group and Kaiser Foundation Health / Health Plan leadership, leads a research portfolio within a learning health care system focused on solving critical care delivery issues and improving health care outcomes for the 4.6 million + members of Kaiser Permanente Northern California, and for the public at local, national, and international levels. The regional director provides the Division of Researchs overall scientific and administrative leadership and vision and works with other executives who help plan, support, and execute this vision. Essential Responsibilities: Sustains, nurtures, and expands an internationally recognized center of excellence in discovery & health research based in Kaiser Permanente Northern California. Provides strategic vision and leadership, operational and administrative oversight of the research activities conducted by NCAL DOR, including grant/contract submission; research activities and report writing and publications; annual department budget; and assures the scientific integrity of research. Mentors the investigator community and attracts and retains top caliber scientists. Sets the strategic research direction of the Division of Research, strengthening relationships with key funding partners, including federal agencies. Collaborates across the region with the Medical Group and Kaiser Permanente leadership to develop, communicate, and disseminate research results within and outside the organization and with the TPMG Chief Research Officer, Chief Executive Officer, Associate Executive Directors, and other system-level leadership for enterprise-level research initiatives within a Learning Health System setting. Basic Qualifications: Experience Minimum seven (7) years of research experience involving human subjects in areas such as health services research, translational research, program evaluation, epidemiology, preventive services, health policy, clinical trials, and/or other related research areas. Minimum seven (7) years of experience in management and leadership positions(s) with or without direct reports, including experience in administration, budget oversight, human resources management, liaison activities, and strategic leadership. Education Advanced degree (PhD, MD) in a related field (human behavior, medicine, health services, pharmacy, behavioral science, health policy, or related field). License, Certification, Registration N/A Additional Requirements: A substantial record of funded scientific research, publications, and national stature in the research community. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of, or experience within, managed care and health care settings. Broad knowledge of grants and contracts administration and the research regulatory environment. Knowledgeable of federal law and regulations governing research involving human subjects. Substantial experience and success leading multidisciplinary groups of scientists. Advanced training in research methods, statistics, and a health-related field. Strong business acumen and understanding of a complex, multi-regional research organization. Must be able to work on a Labor/Market Partnership environment. Demonstrated experience to communicate with scientific, non-scientific, and business professionals via a variety of media formats. Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
