Job Type Full-time Description Overview Tanaq Government Services (TGS) provides facilities Operations & Maintenance (O&M) services to Federal customers. Services provided include complete building maintenance and operations on large complex individual buildings as well as multiple buildings on large campus type environments including military installations. TGS is a subsidiary of the St. George Tanaq Corporation, an Alaskan Native Corporation (ANC) committed to serving Federal customers while also giving back to the Tanaq native community and shareholders. About the Role We are seeking a full-time General Cleaner / Custodian to perform janitorial services at the Orville and Wilbur Wright Federal Buildings. The General Cleaner will be responsible for all basic cleaning in and around office buildings. This includes, but is not limited to, cleaning, window washing, trash removal, recycling, and maintaining buildings or areas. This is a fully onsite position that will report to the Orville and Wilbur Wright Federal Buildings in Washington, D.C. Responsibilities Clean floors and rooms, including dust mopping, damp mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, picking up larger objects off the floor, and spot cleaning glass and windows. Clean restrooms and shower rooms, including restocking and refilling dispensers, emptying trash, cleaning and sanitizing fixtures, cleaning mirrors, spot cleaning partition doors and walls, sweeping and mopping tile floors, and cleaning toilets and urinals. Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures. Dust and polish fixtures, tables, and chairs. Vacuum, empty trash, and replace liners. Set up, stock, and maintain cleaning equipment and supplies. Monitor and maintain sanitation and organization of assigned areas. Transport dirty linens to correct area to be cleaned and restock areas with clean linens. Assist other departments when needed to ensure optimum service to guests and clients. Must understand and follow the cleaning requirements and standards required by the U.S. Government, namely the FAA. Must understand and follow the proper use of equipment, storage of cleaning materials, and handling of cleaning compounds. Must adhere to cleaning schedules and timings. Regularly clean surfaces using cleaning products compatible with the surfaces cleaned and that comply with the established green cleaning plan. Perform additional regular and detailed cleaning and disinfection as requested. Provide building interior and Childcare Center custodial services using proper cleaning methods and product usage tailored for a childcare setting. This will include but not limited to, cleaning floors, carpets and rugs; cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, shower rooms and locker rooms; cleaning and dusting fixtures, surfaces, blinds, and walls; washing windows; collecting, removing, and transporting trash, solid waste and recyclables to designated locations; perform pest control; etc. Provide exterior custodial services, including but not limited to, landscaping, parking lots and grounds maintenance; snow and ice removal; etc. Service lobbies and high public use areas. Service complaints and perform special cleaning required by building occupants vacating specific building areas; alterations performed at the building; special conferences; cleanup work made necessary by toilet floods and similar occurrences. Assist in loading, unloading and distribution of office supplies. Responsible for daily cleaning of high-touch surfaces in accordance with CDC guidance when occupancy is at 50% or greater. Attend safety meetings and other related meetings. Take training classes as required in cleaning methods, techniques, and products. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Required Experience and Skills Minimum 2 years of experience as a cleaner, custodian or janitor in an office or similar environment. Have a good understanding of the cleaning requirements and standards required by the U.S. Government, preferably the FAA. Be aware of the proper use of equipment, storage of cleaning materials, and handling of cleaning compounds. Must be able to adhere to cleaning schedules and timings, Ability to communicate effectively and respond to questions and requests from customers and others. Ability to utilize a wide array of custodial chemicals, general cleaning chemicals. Ability to safely operate custodial equipment (vacuum, backpack vacuum, cardboard bailer). Effective written communication skills using appropriate business English. Human relations skills to build effective working relationships. Demonstrated organizational, problem solving and common-sense skills. Abide by the Federal Drug-Free workplace policy. Must be able to pass background check requirements as set by clients. Valid driver's license and clean driving record may be required. Have a clear background and ability to pass background checks/screening. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. Education and Training Required High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Ability to complete and pass the Cleaning Management Institute (CMI) Basic Custodial Technician certification within the first 30 days of employment. Ability to complete and obtain the CMI Advanced Custodial Technician Certification within the first 6 months of employment. Physical Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be able to walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces and sit for extended periods of time. Must be able to routinely climb / descend stairs. Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows / knees, and reach above / below shoulders. Pay Range The projected hourly pay for this position is $22.55/hour USD. Benefits Information This is a Union position.
