Under limited direction, the Tech Writer II is responsible for leading a task for documenting and developing detailed operation, maintenance and/or troubleshooting procedures, checklists, technical specifications, service bulletins, training materials and other procedures and reports, to meet the customers requirements and expectations. This individual must be proficient in various computer software tools, be highly efficient, and must be willing to work in an environment that is fast paced with set delivery schedules in a hybrid work schedule. Essential Functions: Write technical documents/manuals in accordance with customer specifications. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems on heavy-duty equipment. Research existing data to maximize utilization of previously developed text and illustrations. Draft text materials to ensure coordination per final product requirements. Document and archive technical data efficiently for future projects. Track and record time spent on projects. Communicate work status and additional information needs to management. Complete assigned tasks within established deadlines and customer specifications, adhering to company policies and procedures. Follow established safety procedures and report violations. Assist in training new employees or those transitioning into the department. Review project requirements to ensure compliance with customer specifications and agreements. Perform other job-related tasks as requested with reasonable accommodation. Minimum Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required. Associate degree in a technical or mechanical field, or equivalent work experience required. Associate degree in Automotive Repair or related field preferred. Experience: Two to four (2-4) years of experience writing complex technical documents preferred. Previous military and/or mechanical aptitude/experience preferred. Experience with the Department of Defense (DoD) preferred. Experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems preferred. Familiarity with diagnostic tools such as Onboard Diagnostics (OBD) II, CAT ET, Allison DOC, Bendix Diagnostic, Dearborn, WABCO Toolbox, or other OEM tools preferred. Able to think critically and compare source data files, including engineering drawings, reports, drawing lists, Microsoft documents, Adobe PDFs, etc.to produce technical information used in technical documentation. Able to work overtime when required. Familiarity with Gas and Diesel engines, automotive repair, or any other mechanical knowledge is desired.
